Wipers stopped working a month or so ago, got a new wiper motor from rockauto. It's exactly the same as the one that was in the truck.

Checked fuse, fuse is good.

Checked wiring, wiring looks good.

Wires are hooked up to the switch.

Wires are hooked up to the motor

Cleaned connections off with a brass brush.

I've been messing around with it all day and it's starting to piss me off.

I tried to manually move the wiper arms, that was a no-go. I unhooked the linkage to see if the motor would run without being connected to the linkage, that was a no-go.

Anybody got a solution?

Until then I guess I'll keep sticking my squeegey out of the window and getting rid of the rain that way.

Where am I checking and what exactly would I be looking for. I'm not an electrical guy unless it's splicing, soldering, shrink tube etc.

Can the switch actually go bad???

Check for power at the connector using a test light or meter and a good ground, switch and ignition on. Check for power at the fuse and replace the fuse anyway.

brian wafer - I'm sending the motor back to rock auto and having them send out a replacement.

Stomis - you are referring to the brass on that on the rubber screw bushing correct? I had that grounded between the wiper motor and washer motor like the instructions said and that's how the original motor was grounded and it worked fine up until it died.

blazer74 - I'll get a test light today and check the connector, all new fuses are in order too. THe wiper motor is removed and my wiper motor and washer motor connections are in a watertight bag with a ziptie on it until further notice.

No usually a chevy engine harness will have a ground on the passenger side head. Although my truck is the next generation I believe the harness was the same under the hood. The ground on the passenger head traces back to the ground in the plug for the wiper motor.

The yellow/black wires are power from the fuse for the wipers and the washer pump.
The blue/black is wiper low from switch, white/black is wiper hi from switch.
Ground for the wipers is achieved thru the brass strip to the body.
Ground for the washer pump is from the switch dark blue wire.

That's for a 1976 model.

Test light from brass strip to yellow/black 12 volts with ign and switch on should light up test light. If not try a different a diff ground point.
If no power check from fuse to ground test light should light up if not you have no power to wiper motor from fuse panel.
Looks like from wire diagram wiper motor gets ground from body thru brass strip. Washer pump gets ground from switch.

Hope that helps.

In my '89 Burb there was a ground connected to the body of the wiper motor through to the top RH bolt. Grounding to the firewall. I ignored this detail when I installed a new motor, which crapped out after a week. I suspect the lack of a ground killed the motor. Oreilly's gave me a new wiper motor and I used spare parts to ground the motor this time. I hope this help someone. Now I just need to wait and see if this new, new motor keeps up.
