I have two np 203's. One is mated to a th350 and the other is on a sm465. I told a friend he could buy one for his doubler for his bronco. My question is which one I should sell him? What is the most used here in case I decide to get rid of one and a ck5'r needs one. I don't want to give him the most desirable one. thanks
Dean

I would say that the sm465 is more desirable, it just depends on what people are looking for. I like the 465 because it is manual and the first gear is ridiculously low. It is the most dependable tranny that GM made and can bolt in fairly easily. the TH350 is good for an automatic but many people like the TH400 better simply because it gives them an extra gear in an automatic transmission. If you are doing towing of any kind, in my opinion the 465 would be more desirable, preferences between automatic and manual differ by the person in terms of off road use.

TH350'S AND TH400's are both 3 speed automatics.

keep the np203 for a sm465, they are more rare then the other one. if i could find one, i would think about going with a doubler. i have a few of the other styles.

The 465/203 combo is very rare (only offered in '74) and is highly sought after for people going with a doubler. The 465/203 adapter (~$150-200) is probably worth more than the (10 spline) 203 itself ($100 at the most).

The TH350 version NP203 (27 spline) is probably worth $50 or less (there are literally millions of them)

Make sure that you actually have a 465/203 because the 465/205 is much more common and 203's and 205's don't look all that different (there should be tags on new process transfer cases).

Is he running a ford d-train. If he is ford transmissions are 31 spline, & he will still need to get the right input shaft & drill the face of the 203 to mount to his adapter.

Like stated above hold on to the 465/203, they are rare. I scored one 1-2 years ago just because.

thanks all. I thought the 465 combo was the one to keep just wanted to make sure. Maybe Ill keep both because like boz said the ford is different and he could probably find one easy.
