K&N filter cleaning

Anyone ever use anything other than the K&N filter cleaning kit to clean their filters? I thought about just mixing up a solution of Simple Green and then reoiling. I wouldn't think it would hurt

...I have cleaned mine w/ Simple Green and oiled it w/ Air Tool Oil before. Didn't seem to hurt it, but didn't do as good a job as the K&N Kit did. I only did it because it REALLY needed cleaned and the parts store was out of the K&N stuff.

Check out the Kalgard line of filter cleaning and oiling products. Might even be kalgard.com I usetheir stuff on the Dune Buggy and I prefer it to K&N's stuff. For one, their cleaner is biodegradable.

Next, why are you cleaning it? They work best dirty. Might even be as good as a paper filter when dirty. I only clean the DB's when I have to work around it.
