k series diesel question

what year did gm start putting diesel engines into the k series?
If you are asking about the real diesel, it started in 82 with the 6.2
Before that in the late 70's they put a oldsmobile 350 converted to gas which was the worst thing they did to their diesel reputation.
The engine along with it's little brother the 4.3 V6 did OK in cars , and some are still running till today but it was not a purpose built diesel, more of let's see what we have that'll work.
People still think the 6.2 is the same, but it's not, it was bui8lt from the ground up by Detroit Diesel

yeah, a lot of old timers like to tell me how horrible the 350 diesel was, and to make sure i never end up with one. so, anyway, they were putting diesels in before '82? i'm just tryin to get ahold of something i don't have to smog so i can put a built gasoline engine into it.

It's funny I am always looking for nice rigs to put my diesel in them, and here people are trying to do the opposite.
Well, that keeps the price of used diesels lower, fine by me. :D

didn't mean to offend the diesel population, truth is from what i've read and seen is that those 6.2's are awesome engines, i have no experience with any diesel, and i was just exploring my options. if it means anything, i have found the truck i've been looking for and it doesn't have anything diesel in it. i'm just glad i didn't post in the diesel forum, cuz i almost did.

Hey it's your choice, no one can make choices for other people. It's just that most people make the choice based on hearsay.
When I came to CA, the first vehicle I bought was a diesel Van, it had bad rod bearings and was clacking bad, I drove it a few months till I found a diesel K5, I could have put a gas engine in it and never smogged it, I didn't because I was looking for another 6.2 to put in it. Then I started looking for a nice diesel suburban, I finally found not one but 2 with turbo as well, I drove gas powered chevy truck for 10 years and I can tell you once I drove a diesel, I was hooked.
I have a couple of gas trucks I am converting to diesel, but that's just me, I am even putting a 6.2 in my Jeep wagoneer.

I wasn't offended either.

My post was concerning you would be doing something illegal. Swap engines and you are supposed to follow the smog requirements for the new engine. I wouldn't suggest doing something illegal on the internet:D
