Trying to replace the cab corners on my 83 k10 this weekend. I got the driver side cut out and found that a good portion of the inner CC was rusted out as well. I know that the inner CC is part of the problem on these trucks that makes the outer rust out. I am wondering for you guys who have done them what would you do in this situation. Replace the inner CC as well or make some kind of brace to close off the cab and then just weld on the outer CC, essentially nixing the inner? Also the piece of the edge of the rocker in the door jamb is kind of rusty at the bottom where the outer CC needs to be spot welded on. Take a look at the pics and see what you think should be done there. Never done this before and can't seem to find a solid write up online. I appreciate any help.

I like your idea of making something to go in there which also helps slow down the problem which the factory style has.

I'm not a professional, but I would do as much as possible to get rusty parts gone , or stop the rust as much as possible.
That flange for the door pillar would make me crazy thinking about how long before it causes a problem.....
My brain has a difficult time deciding where to stop.

I don't think that you have to make it factory original in the back side. Improvement on the support is no crime to me.

What would you do about the door panel flange? I have a new rocker panel for my other truck that I guess I could cut that piece out of. How would you do it.

I think that I would try to make that piece out of multiple parts, or one piece with the rolled corner then pie cut the arched side.
Maybe you can get it made? Is it sold somewhere?

Or does it really need to have the stiffening flange, ( the piece which doesn't have spot welds) to be right against the cab corner?
Make a flat piece for the flange for the cab corner to weld to, then just weld a straight piece to the back of it for the stiffening rib.

Does that make sense in words?

Here's is what I did. Cut the piece out of a replacement rocker I had. Now if I can just get the new cab corner to fit with this piece of aftermarket rocker.

That looks pretty good. Guess I've been lucky not to end up with an inner corner that was rusted out that high up.
I have seen inner corners listed but never tried one. I think you did well to fix it.
How is the inner on the other side will you have to do the same thing?

This actually isn't the inner corner. The piece that I cut out and fixed was part of the rocker. I am going to make something to put in and brace up the inner corner maybe tomorrow. Hopefully the other side isn't this bad.

Okay I gotcha, I see what you mean. I'm glad you tackled it. Possibly something I will try in the future if dealing with another pickup.
