K10 Resurrection

This will be less of a build, and more just a catalog of work done to get this truck more reliable and roadworthy. End goal is just a truck to serve as a truck, and that I have something cooler than most of the other crap I could have bought.
Bought this a week ago. Been in need of a pickup for hauling random stuff, and I missed my old K5, so instead of something new and boring, I got this. Not gonna build it for wheeling- already have a TJ for that (don't ban me). I'd rather wheel this, but I also have a family and they fit (barely) in the TJ, and they won't fit in this. Runs well, interior is trashed, I get the feeling this thing has not been driven much for a while, and it definitely hasn't seen much love in a long time.

First up- interior. The old door panels had turned to dust.

New door panels, handle (old one the spring was broken and it didn't work well anymore), window cranks.

Nothing fancy, straight from LMC. They fit well and went on easy enough. Instant improvement in comfort, since now I don't have fiberglass shards digging in my arm when I drive it.

Cheapo dash cover, too, and a cheapo seat cover on order. That's about all I'm gonna do to the interior, at least until I get around to addressing the busted radio.

Next up, get the brakes working. Master cylinder was leaking, and the rear reservoir was empty. Start with a new master cylinder.20190615_114255.jpg

Can't bleed the passenger side rear, and the drivers side was making progress until it stopped, too. Worried I might have a plugged hardline. Considering how long it's been since these brakes were in use, and how thin the shoes are, I'm just going to rebuild the brakes, replace the wheel cylinders, and hope that fixes everything.

Anyone wanna play guess that fluid?View attachment 306092
Doesn't look like any of the previous owners wanted to flush that DOT III, by flushing every 100,000 miles it helps prolong the life of everything it comes in contact with from master to calipers. Looks like a very solid foundation and your hitting it right taking care of neglect from previous owners.

Body is mostly rust free- nothing more than surface rust, but far from straight. This thing has spent it's life working. Lots of dents.

I got the brakes finished, stops much better. More than one broken spring in there, they wouldn't have work even with fluid to them.

And then...20190621_200711.jpg

I lacerated my pinky at work. Severed artery, tendon, surgery 8 hours later. 8 weeks of immobilization, followed by however long of PT. Safe to say no more progress on the truck for a few months. Can't even drive a stick right now... oh well, I'll get back to it when I can.

Ouch, that sucks, but at least it wasn’t your thumb.

Progress! Minor, but I'm one handed right now, so I'll take what I can get.

Now has a glove box, thank you LMC. The plastic "hinge" was broken.

And a new sound system! :saweet:

Seems secure... had it lying around and I don't really want to put any money into the stereo in this truck, at least not yet.

That's all I have planned for the interior for now. At least it's a little nicer to be in now.

Bluetooth?

Yeah, I had been using it as my cheap garage radio, but now I've got a nice set up in there and this hasn't been being used.

Sometime I'll get around to a proper head unit in the truck, but this will get me by until then.
I have the same concept but I move it to the car I am driving.
No radio in most of my vehicles
