I was at the flea market today looking for some seat covers for the blazer, and I saw a 4x4 crew cab. I went to look under it to look at a D60, because Ive only seen two in my life that were only housings. When I looked under it I saw not three but FOUR U-bolts. I though all crew cabs had 60s?

Before the 60 came out in 77, CC got a 44HD. I found a CC that was sitting, and thought about getting for the front, selling it, make a buck or two. Got closer to it, had a 454, but had the 44HD. It was a 73, before the 60 came out. But I don't think that Gm made a 4wd K20 CC, thought only the 2 wheelers came that way.

The sales literature doesn't support a K-series crew bfore '77, and no evidence of a K20 at all.

That said, dealer or upfitter mods - especially for fleet use - are very possible.

Its also possible they were only released to foreign markets (i.e. Canada). Heck, you Americans didn't get a factory Ford crewcab until '73. :p:

The grille was I wanna say 80 or 81. But it for sure had 4 u-bolts and 4 doors lwb. Maybe it was switched?

What color was it? Regular bed or tool bed?

Just a regular white crew cab.

I think what John ( NVRENUF ) is getting at is that we ( as in a friend of ours ) might have already grabbed the D60 out of this truck years ago .
The truck we are talking about was an 1981 or 1982 white K-30 Crew Cab that had a Reading box on it. When the truck was sold it had a 10 bolt put back in the front for an axle. This might not be the truck you are looking at but since you are in Mobile it could be possible. The last I ever saw of that truck was in Pensacola back in 1995 or so.
If this truck is the same one we are thinking of John can tell you a great deal about it if needed.

I hear reference of K20 crews once in awhile. I was researching rear blocks in the early crew cabs 77-80 today and found this thread.

Any new evidence or information on K20 crews through the years from GM.

I'll bet it was a K30 with the D60 removed. I was always under the impression ALL crew cabs were 1 ton. Even when my father wanted to buy a new truck in '94, he asked about 4 door options, they said only 1 ton. So he got an extended cab 1500. Not until a couple years later did they come out with a non-1ton crew cab.

But I've got no literature to back that up.
Nice 9 year bump btw :D

My Dad bought a brand new GMC crew-cab in 1979, it was a 3/4 ton, In old photos you can see the 2500 on the side. of course, it was a 2wd not 4wd, so it may not matter!

Seen a 3/4 ton 2 wheeler, and have heard of a 3/4 ton 4wd. Can't remember what site, but there was a pic of it. Could have been a Canuk thing....

I saw an 80's model crew cab 4x4 in Colorado somewhere and it had the 10 bolt front with the fender badges reading 20 on them.

While this has been the only K20 CC I've ever seen in person I have heard about them. While not as plentiful as the C20 CC's, there are K20 CC's out there.

There were K 20 crew cabs. I think they were popular in fleet sales. The railroad in my wife's hometown had a bunch. Straight 6 turbo 400 k 20 crew cabs. When I was first married they scrapped probably 20 of those. Very sad most had clean bodys

I've seen K20 crew cabs before, they were always '76 or older. I always assumed they were dealer conversions or something.

Speaking of blocks, my '79 K30 crew cab has the tall 4x4 style spring hangers, so maybe it was only the earlier trucks that got blocks.
