Well my k10 has been sitting for five years now. I was really close to scrapping it, but never got to it. Just brainstorming right now, but I'll be getting back into tractor pulling, and I don't want to subject my 06 silverado to that use. IMO the ten bolt and 4L60E aren't up to it, and it's my DD. I figure the FF 14 bolt, and sm465 will hold up much better to a trailer with a 5800 pound tractor.
The truck is a 1979 k10. It has a TBI 350, 4.10 geared ff14 bolt, and Dana 44 swapped in. An sm465 will be swapped in eventually, as I want nothing to do with a TH350/203 anymore.
I could never get the TBI 350 to run right, that's the main reason it's sitting. My plan would be to build a torquey carbureted 350. I have pretty much everything to put something together. I've got a pile of cylinder heads, a freshly machined block and crank from a previous build, that never materialized, intakes, carbs, distributors... I know it would be far from ideal, but I have most of the parts already. I was thinking flat tops with either 624, or 882 heads. I was thinking about 9 to 9.5:1 should be ok? Or would that be too high? My hope is no less than 400 ft lbs, and let the HP fall where it may. 300 would be nice, and with modern cam tech, I feel that isn't out of the question.
I figure leave the rest of the truck stockish. Maybe a 2" lift is all. I know this wouldn't be ideal, but I'm not towing that much, I have it and most of the parts, and besides. I just want to start messing with a square body again. Any advice would be great. Thanks guys.
