Is that as good as it gets?
Does premium fuel help the mileage enough to offset the extra cost?

My 95 Burb w/ non vortec 350 got 13...wtf?

Yep, thats as good as it gets. I have an 06' standard cab 2500HD with a 6.0 and 4.10's and that all I get.

well, at least that'll be economical compared to the Iron Maiden's 461:haha::haha:

I doubt premium fuel will net you any extra mileage. Premium fuel has no extra energy in it, it simply takes more heat to ignite, which prevents pre-combustion.

That said, Dad DDs a crewcab longbox 08 2500HD with a 6.0L / 6 speed and gets around 16 mpg with it

Imperial gallon I'm sure...4.54 litres vs 3.78 litres. Makes a big difference in numbers being thrown around.

Thats not too bad for a big V8, my 2.0 4 cylinder I have had drop down and average 14.5MPG in a VW Jetta when I'm in the boost. It drank a tank of gas between O.C. and Stateline racing a Mustang Cobra once on the way to vegas!

My 2003 2500hd with a 6.0/4l80e , 4:10s with 37 km2s gets 12-14 around town, to and from work. Usually i run cheap gas but run injector cleaner or additive to take care of the ethanol. It does tho have edelbrock shorty headers, dual flowmaster 50 series with 2.5 pipe, aem cold air intake, bbk throttle body, msd coils, hypertech programmer and a throttle body spacer. Seems to run rather well. It did get 14-15 new with 245s so its really not much worse now. Heres one for you guys

Nope, definitely talking US gallons here! He does really baby it though, and that is almost entirely highway mileage

well my mileage checks have only been about 470 miles worth of back and forth to work and general below 50mph stuff. Some city driving too. I'm taking it to Chicago and back in a couple weeks, we'll see how the highway drive is.
I'm running 45# T.P. unloaded with 10 plys' on it. Thats what I run on my other 10 ply trucks...do you guys run more?
I would go up to 65-80 when towing depending on the load.
I'm thinking of changing plugs too, I generally like to stay with the plug designed for the engine (i.e. AC's) but what have others had good results with in this engine?

Saweet ride Rob...did you recalibrate the speedo for the bigger tires?

Also, my truck has 3.73's in it, not the 4.10's.

The hypertech has a section in it to recalibrate the speedo, it asks the tire size and its all good from there. It was ordered with 4:10s and the towing package.

As for the centercaps they are from the factory alloy wheels, you just turn em over and pull the lil plastic nubs out and they sit tight and flat. They are 2004 h2s, cheap from ebay...

While its true that premium fuel doesn't have extra energy in it, premium fuel generally goes with a motor that has a higher compression ratio and per thermodynamics a higher compression ratio means better efficiency (more power and mileage).

This is the important part. Baby it. 6.0 are thirsty if you let them. Otherwise they can do allright, all things considered.

hmm. I've been trying to let it shift about 2500 rpm or less, usually about 2100-2200. Always use D (OD) selection.
although I am guilty of hitting it a few times with the heavy foot.

when I drove the Suburban daily how I drove really made a difference.. and it didn't take much to throw the mileage off.

now I don't care when I drive it since I drive a little 35mpg beater that hasn't gotten less than 32 even when I rail on it.

Our 05 extended cab 2500HD got 13.5-14 around town and 15-16 highway. It had 4.10s, stock tires(245s) and an NV4500. My wife does not have a light foot, so I know it wasn't necessarily babied on the road.

I can get 14.8 to 17 mpg in my 09 6.0 1500 with a 6l80. I have 3.42's gears. On the highway I get 22mpg.

i get around 13 in town and 19 on the highway with the cruse at 65.

2008 2500hd 6.0 6 speed. It has 4.10's
