Any specs on this strange animal?

Axles, wheel base, suspension, tranny, tc . . .

Looks like a 6.2L Diesel engine

If you can get it real cheap, its worth the money for the motor/ tranny/t case, I forget what it has for a t case but its 6.2/ 400 or 475

Axles are just WAY to big. They are geared supppppper low and are just way to heavy for use.

Ther is no suspension.

Im not sure if its a stock frame or not. If it is it would be easy enough to ditch the axles/ bumpers and build a suspension for.

Hell the money in scrap for the bumpers/ axles would be enough to make it worth it:haha::haha::haha:

It's a CUCV body/drivetrain (can't remember about the frame) dropped onto a pair of crazy big ZF axles, made for low-speed high torque, with like 6.72:1 gears or somesuch. As said, no springs :(

First pic I've seen of the engine compartment; that brake master is gnarly, and the cover/drip-pan for it is wild!

i belive that it is lower than 6.72 i think it may have been as low as 20:1

Yeah, now that you say it that sounds right.

Anyway, they're made to pull airplanes on the flight line, duh, so speed isn't important, but torque is.

Those things are pullling beasts. I prefer the dodge tugs though. In Iraq our shop truck was broke so we got to roll around the flight line in one of those we borrowed from the ground equipment guys. It was cool. Yeah, they don't have much suspension on them and ride like a chuck wagon.

I believe they still have 1 ton stuff under them. Jacking it up and doing the wheel spin counting test would be the only real way to tell. Plus the Dodge one that I drove had the cummins in it, so it was hard to tell if it was the motor or the gearing. But it 4 low it didn't like to go more than 10 mph. I would think 44's would be no problem, but then again, they might not all be the same across the board it might depend on how they were ordered for the military.

If you are referring to the truck in the above picture, then the axles are obviously not 1-tons. As already mentioned they came stock with some huge ZF axles that have planetary ends of them (as you can see in the pics).

Thx for your replies!
IMHO a CUCV (M1008/1010/1028) should be a better 1ton source than this tractor. Wondering if the Dodges (google helps a lot) were build with these specs too (axles, gearing etc.).

There is someone on pirate4x4.com that is building one of these into a trail rig. They do have a suspension...kinda, I believe the axles pivot in the middle. So only one end of the axle will go up, while the other end goes down
