Picked up this beatup old crew cab last weekend, thought I'd share my excitement.

I've been monkeying around with this 2wd 79 K5, instead of trying to sell it and putting more upfront for a 4wd I've been thinking of converting it to 4x4 and adding a 6.2 diesel to match my 85 K20 daily.

Anyway the crew cab is really appealing to me, the body is shot, probably not worth redoing but if I could find a better cab and a shortbox it would be a sweet truck. Maybe a good replacement for my recently sold lifted 4 door duramax. Probably more suited to my needs than the blazer..

It has the dana 60, 14 bolt, 32 spline NP205 fixed yoke, not so long ago rebuilt TH400, & 6.2.

In ran pretty good on the 3 hr drive back but has a dead cylinder. I believe its a burnt valve, no compression, no oil consumption.

Kind of rambling here but I got the whole thing for 800, even if I chop it up for parts for the K5 it has 5x that in useful parts. Waiting for the snow to clear, hoping maybe a decent cab comes up in the meantime, if not the blazer will get all the 1 tons gear after winter.

all you guys and your crew cabs and diesels and what not. Now, not only do I want a cummins in a K truck, I want a crew cab too.:doah:

good find though, wish I could get that lucky just once.

it was for sale on a widely used classifieds site, got lucky I guess as I managed to get a hold of him and get down there quickly.
No one I know thinks its a deal, glad I'm not alone lol.
I have been looking around and have found a couple of 2wd crew cabs in decent shape for under 2, even some with a 6.2 in them. Don't really want ot pay that and I don't really have the room for another one unless I find one with a turbo lol.

If I had the money I would have bought that without hesitation. I couldn't find a 4wd crew where I am, so I started with a 2wd and made it a 4wd....

Awesome deal, and not in terrible shape for Sask. Good score!!

so what was/is wrong with the transfer case? it won't go into 4hi from what i understand?
also i have my doubts about the tranny being rebuilt, both my self and a friend spoke with him (at different times) about the truck when he first tried to sell it. he gave us different stories on it being rebuilt. one of the stories was along the line of "oh i'm not sure how many Km are on it it was redone bout 6 years ago and i've only driven it a few thousand k since then" the other storie was that it was done 2 years ago and he only used the truck to haul garbage with since then.

t-case linkage is fragged, its the good 205 with fixed yoke and 32 spline input, fairly desirable as opposed to 10 spline ones from what I've read.
Trans has been rebuilt, I put it on the pit at work and you can tell it has been, pretty clean and painted.
Unsure how long ago, could care less. Planning on going through all the drivetrain anyway.
Just looking for diffs for the blazer was more than 800, now I have trans, t-case, driveshaft, engine with accessories, etc.
If it didn't have a dana 60 it wouldn't be worth it I don't think, but I don't know of any 60 stashes around here, or even any for sale for under 1000.

well thats pretty decent for ya then,
the guy you bought the blue truck from has a set of remanned heads for a 6.2 that he will probably part with if you just wanna swap out heads on the k30 instead of fixing them

maybe, depends what he wants I guess. He can email me at toofukinlowAThotmail.com maybe we can work something out...
The old Blue truck is still kicking btw.
Did you ever use that 75 blazer top?

well i'm glad she's still around alot of beer was drank under it :D
i still have the top, it's sitting in my yard. seems like everytime i get ready to do it i buy something new. first it was another K5, the i bought a 74 ironhead, and now i just picked up a burban that i'm going to mud with. can't make up my mind lol.

Yeah the K30 is an 82, first year of the 6.2. Though it has a later block swapped in.

well i'm glad she's still around alot of beer was drank under it :D

that explains that booger welded shackle lol.
Other than the rear diff, some power steering crap and minor maintenance crap I think I've probably put some 50,000k on it. Gets up every morning to take me to work, never complains.. its been a really good truck.
