k5 blazer 2wd how rare - misfit garage

well that was a waist of time. they ruined that k5. made it into a low ride with sound system

After seeing that show I wished I'd kept the '75 2wd K5 I had..paid $150 for it,it had a 250 six and a three speed..was pretty rusty when I got it but I patched it all up decent..put a 307 V8 in it and a Saginaw 4 speed from a '75 Vega,it had 3:73 gears and was quite peppy,and got decent gas mileage..much smoother ride than a 4x4,it was a great summer truck..

And yes,GM did retain the "K5" emblems even though they were 2wd!..

$8.5k is crazy for Blazer in that shape.
Maybe I should spray the tires with Armor All & throw a for sale sign on old crusty.

I sold mine for $450....:doah:...after all that work!...
I'd have been elated to get even $4500 for it from "Misfit Tom"..

I about threw up when I saw them hand over $8500 for that hulk in the field..thought of all the other 2wd ones I saw, once I owned one, that were for sale cheap around here, because up here a 2wd one was considered a waste of a Blazer,really..you need 4WD here..

The 2wd ones were not "rare",but they were never hot sellers here either..most of them were bought by people who couldn't afford or did not want a 4x4 and they were in the minority..

A first generation 2wd Blazer IS quite rare--I looked at two of them and passed on buying them back in the 80's for less than $200,I was actually disgusted when I drove 15 miles to look at one posted in the want ads that just said "71 K5 Blazer for sale,$200 or B/O"...

The guy never disclosed it was only 2wd over the phone when I got the address from him to go look at it..when I said I was expecting a 4x4,he said "well--you never ASKED"..:tongue1:

Looking back I should have bought it anyways, seeing they made less than a few thousand of them that year, and it wasn't terribly rusted ,and ran & drove OK..

Anytime someone says "rare" about a car or truck I roll my eyes. Big difference between uncommon and rare. Most of the time a truly rare or collectible vehicle is sitting in a museum or collection already. Rare vehicles are almost never found in a field somewhere. Uncommon or strange doesn't automatically mean valuable. There is always an exception, but any vehicle is only worth what someone will give you on the day you need to sell it.

I have a 1973 Jeep commando with the bullnose front and factory V8. 2 year only model and they didn't make very many. I beat it around the mountains just like any other. Its just a funny looking jeep to me.

I tend to agree--"rare" does not always mean "highly collectible" or "worth a fortune"...but to the right person,an "uncommon" vehicle may bring a lot more than you figured it was worth..your Jeep may be a prime example..

I worked with a guy who bought a '70 or so Jeep Commando ,it was a 4x4,straight six,had been used as a tire store's delivery vehicle,it had the Michelin Man painted on each side..thing was in really decent shape, but since he got it cheap ($500 back around 1986),he just drove it,beat it,used it to haul firewood,etc..

One day a guy came in the parts store and asked "who owns the Jeep"--I said "why, did you back into it "?..:D
He laughed and said "No,I've been looking for one like that "forever"...
So I told him "the owner is out on a delivery,he'll be back in a little while..he said "I'll wait for him"..

When he came back, the guy approached him and asked if he'd sell him the Jeep..he was kind of surprised, and said "well,I never really thought about selling it--if I did,I'd need to get another vehicle first ,on the road,so I can get to work, and use like I use the Jeep"..

They went outside and looked at it awhile--then he came back in smiling and said "I just traded the Jeep for his 1980 F250 4x4,plus $1500 cash!"..

My jaw about hit the floor!..nice truck too,351W,4 speed,4WD,33" tires ,only bummer was a few days after he registered it the transfer case started popping out of gear--but he found a good one for $200 at a salvage yard nearby..I think he made out pretty good!..

The owner admitted "I hated to sell that Jeep,it was the only one around here like it--but it had some issues, and I felt it was a good deal for me--even after I listed all the things I felt were wrong with the Jeep, they guy didn't seem to care--he just wanted it that bad!.."

Chevy actually called all the blazers k10 and c10 k5 was just a badge on a fender.

If you look at the GM heritage center factory stuff it will say k10 blazer or C10 blazer

Those old Commando's are kinda cool, I can just imagine the questions of why you have a Chevy front on your Bronco...

Yeah, a lot of people think it is a bronco. Its a fun jeep and it is in decent condition. It seems they are worth $5k lately. Makes the $800 I paid for it back in the early 2000's a great deal. On the other hand, weak axles, screwy motorcraft ignition and drum brakes all the way around are not so great. It is still a great nostalgia ride. I thought about upgrading all those things and realized I would be putting a chevy drivetrain in my old jeep. Therefore I just built my Blazer for off roading, all the good drivetrain bolts right in.

If someone wanted to go from 4wd to 2wd maybe that would be an easy swap.... not sure. plenty of 2wd trucks to pull parts from

Seen a lot of jeeps tees and commandos redone on TV shows lately. Fix the weak points and make em look good.

Doesn’t ever show how it took 4 months to find a Dana60 front or the proper king pins or whatever, the stuff that real guys go through.
