What do these things weigh stock? Does anyone keep track of there weight after custom fabrications?

My 89 blazer before my new rear bumper weighed in at 5,880 lbs. with a full tank of gas. I'm going to guess now with the new rear bumper i built i'm sitting closer to 6,100 lbs.

From a post I'd made a couple years ago in The Garage:

No guessing here.....I had my Blazer weighed on 4-Corner Scales at a local race shop:

L.F. = 1113
R.F. = 1285
L.R. = 1297
R.R. = 1121

Total weight = 4819 Lbs
Weight Distribution F/R: 2398 / 2418
Distribution Percentages: 49.79% / 50.21%

Configuration:
1972 Blazer with Factory Hardtop
35" Tires on Aluminum Wheels
D44 Front / 12-Bolt Rear axles
No Carpet - Though the roughly 100Lbs of stereo gear compensates
1/2 Tank of Fuel in an ~18 Gallon Tank.

last time i weighed mine was at 4980. thats with no top, only one inner fender on front 454, th400, 203/205 and dana 60/ 14ff and no bumpers or rocker boxes but did have 2x3x.188 tubing rock sliders and had doors on. Since then I have build roll cage and bumpers ( about 130' at 2 pounds per foot) and had ditched the doors and other inner front fender. I need to weight it again.

:thinking:...maybe I'm not as piggy as I thought.

79 k5 bone stock with full tank and me in the seat was 4950lbs. Need to weigh it now for the after modified weight.

Bruiser

3 tons of lovin! So whats the GVW weight sticker on the inside of the door jam for?

GVWR tells you how much the rig and all cargo can legally weigh. Unladen weight, if listed is what the vehicle itself weighs.

I was surprised when I weighed mine with 1tons and doubler big block and all. I'm bringing mine to town to get the exhaust redone already monday I'll weigh it again

probably could but might not be optimum. Maybe some airbags or helper springs in the rear to help and make sure you have good trailer brakes. Might ask around on towrig.com this sites sister forum and see what people are towing with too.

Does anyone tow their k5 with a 1/2 ton tahoe? Or think its capable?

I towed my 70 K5 home from Dallas, Texas on an 18' car trailer with my 95 GMC Yukon. It did fine for that one trip but the Yukon's nose was up quite a bit. Definitely would want helper springs or more idealy, helper air bags if you want to tow alot with a Yukon or Tahoe. I kept it out of overdrive and stayed at 55-60 mph and did fine. Definitely did not have the ideal towing gear ratio.

Best trailer mod I ever did was to add a load leveler system.
It's controls torque on all 4 axis.

It made towing an overloaded trailer with an under rated truck very doable.
I'd recommend it highly.

I kept it and transferred it over to the 10K trailer and was glad I did when I hauled that tractor. :eek1:

i have no rear bumper, spare tire or hi lift jack on it yet though either. I also have mt MTRs on aluminum rims though too that are probably lighter than swampers on steel wheels
