k5 crash

First off, I wouldn't even be up there in my K5, that's just nuts. There seemed to always be someone falling off the Lionsback in Moab.

But, if I was up there, I would start low gear, low range, and use the engine brake all the way down. And if I lost control and started to careen down the track, I'd crap my pants and pray for a soft landing.

1. Lions back is closed.
2. Old video.
3. When the investigation was done. Brakes were fine.
4. She was on the gas.
5. Husband was an idiot.

ding ding ding...we have a winner!

Problem 1: HE LET HER DRIVE HIS RIG!:doah:
Problem 2: The skinny one is on the right, brake on the left.
Problem 3: Go down that steep of a incline at the slowest speed possible(.5 MPH)

The first word of the title was the problem in the video

I was in an old IH Scout once while driving the lions back.
The friend who was driving (my BIL) is/was very experienced in driving offroad. The Scout had it's share of old truck issues, but it ran OK and had great brakes.
He low ranged it, and 1st geared it. He did NOT have to touch the brakes all the way down, it just idled all the way down. I could have gotten down faster by walking.

Moral of the story is: chick driving didn't know how to drive down steep hills, and payed dearly!

Did you just post this cause you want to ask the question of what others would do in this situation? Or, did you just see this vid for the first time and thought you would post it up? How old are you? Do you know this vid has to be 15 plus years old, or there abouts, and has been see on by billions of people hundreds of times over. It is not new by any stretch if the imagination.

Did you just call him a nOOb ???? :D

He's been here longer than you Darren, but with fewer posts. So I imagine you're legit in all but the n0ob part. But still, if he hasn't seen this video before now...:doah:

yeah I've seen this vid many times however I have not seen the entire length. just wondering what people would have done. it is hard to believe that the gal mistaken the brake for gas.

here are possibly scenarios
1. brakes fail
2. engine dies and power steering is loss
3. parking brake fails to hold vehicle
4. traveling to fast for conditions
5. panic and she hits the gas

would you rather take your chances in a old chevy or a new small "smart" car of today?

seen this couple years ago.almost shat myself and would have full on if i was in that rig at that point.it couldve been a lot worse but at least she kept it moving down the trail and not off the side of the cliff up above.i wouldve had my truck in fist gear and low on the transfer case.i would've never made been past 5 mph even if i was full on the gas at that point.

Yeah I seem to remember hearing she put it in drive rather than first as well :doah:

This one went over the side too, there used to be much better pictures.

SHe was doing good and she did a hell of a job making it down as far as she did. I was there that day. The Break Booster failed at the Top the first bump she hit Killed the Engine so that is all her driving all the way down. They brough the Truck to Grand Junction and it sat Flat in a shop here in town for about a year then I lost touch with them and the shop has since moved.

Yes Poorly maintained vehicle was mostly at fault here.

What year was this? Do you know what became of the truck after the shop closed?
