With all the experience here. Has anyone ever tried to fab a all steel body for a K5? Instead of using the fiberglass top or a soft top, just build a complete steel roof, sides, and rear?

Or am I just crazy?

Then what would be the point of having a k5 with no removable top??:dunno: I thought that was the fun part....

If someone were to do a custom, I would think it would be to turn one into a camper like the CHALET.

K5

I never been into the top down look, also I'm due to swap out the failing rubber seam in my K5. So my imagination started to wonder.

Section the rear doors out of a burb:D

Call me crazy, but I had a long conversation with a buddy of mine about this very thing last week.

I was wondering if it would be easier to graft the 'Burb rear roof and barn doors onto the K5, or simpler just to shorten the Suburban by sectioning the rear doors and midsection.

Basically, I was thinking about a square-bodied, 2-door Tahoe (or '92-'94 Blazer). Not that I'd ever build one on my finances, but it's nice to dream.

Pardon the quick & dirty Photoshop chop, but this is what I was thinking...

While having a removable top is part of the fun of owning an older Blazer, I bet a 2 door, hardtop (no leaks), barn door (easy access) K5 would be pretty nifty.

Pretty cool but the rear wheel wells neet to be moved back lol. Looks like its gonna tip over backwards. Cool photochop though:waytogo:

How bout instead of screwing with this you go get a burb cut the "topper" area off, and weld the whole thing to ur quarter panels and around the stock top position on the blazer. DONE!:deal:

True. I was going to move the wheelwells back a bit, but to be honest, I didn't want to futz with it. I was actually trying to scale it to the Blazer wheelbase to avoid having it look like a toy, but I decided to have another bagel instead...

That was another option I was throwing around. Take the entire rear top section of the 'Burb (doors, rear glass, roof) and weld it to a Blazer. Either way, it's a lot of work.

EDIT: Finished my Bagel. Had a Pepsi. Moved the wheelbase.
