That ends up staying in. The tailpan overlaps it and such. If the light mounting holes are still there just cut off the rust and get the post snug. The post is the structural portion. The posts are tricky! As you have to bend the tabs down. Make sure you keep dry fitting the tailgate before you final weld everything!
