Hi guys, it's been a while since I was here, good to be back! :waytogo:

With that I have a question and was wondering if someone can answer it...

I have a 1989 K5 and need a new chassis, what year chassis would work doing this? Is the K5 chassis interchangeable form year to year?

I'm guessing some mods need to happen.

Not really any mods needed if you are talking frame replacement. Pretty much from 1976.5 through 1992 the frame changed very little, with the only exception being a minor change to the front of the frame horns around 81 I believe. There may be some body mount holes that need to be drilled, but I am not 100% positive on that. If you need to swap a frame, as long as it is mid-80's on up it should be fine, at least before the 92 IFS "Blazer".

To be a direct replacement, 81-91.
If you don't mind modifying the frame horns for the different bumpers then 78-91.
Before 78 the rear floor was flat to the back of the front seat, so the frame was different underneath as well, could be made to work, but much easier to find a cleaner frame in the newer models.

Imiceman's never wrong.... lol

Prior to '81 the body mount holes were round, the later ones had 2 flats on the holes. Not a big deal but it can add to the frustration when you go to do the actual swap.
