Truck can sit for a week… I tap the gas once, bump the key and it fires right up like a dream. Most the time after it gets real hot.. motor has to turn over a few seconds before it cranks….twice as long when compared to cold. Truck run perfect in every way.. has a Edelbrock 1406 …added a Edelbrock heat shield between the carb and manifold..didn’t help anything.

Any ideas?

Your timing can make it harder to start when hot i beleive. IIRC its when its too far advanced.... :dunno:

Oh and my 1406 does this too lol.

I bought a 2" carb spacer from chevy305, see if that might help. Ill report back.

my truck did that, checked the timing and we were at close to 11*. Turned it back to 6*, lost a little power, but you barely even have to tap the key when hot

wouldnt it do the same thing during cold start if it was the timing?

Idk, i changed mine once though and it didnt do it anymore but i didnt like the power loss so i put it back. It still starts, tge starter just works a little harder, but its got a lifetime warranty so im not worried.

i had the same problem,
i put a plastic heat insulator between carb and intake and used the rubber plumbing pipe insulation over the fuel line where its close to the engine heat and it solved the problem

sb chevy seem to like 12 degree base timing

My ignition coil was acting up, but only when it was hot. See if the parts store will let you try one...some will.
