k5 heater core HELP ME

I have the core box out and everything but I can't seem to get the box apart. All the screws are out and the top piece is loose but one of the flaps has a rod going through the box preventing it from coming apart. Any ideas? I must be missing something here. Its a 1988 K5 Blazer.

The shaft holding the door in the case must be removed to seperate the case halves.
