I have a 74 Jeep FSJ that is smog exempt here in California because it is pre 1975. I was given a totally sweet 77K5 Jimmy with a totally thrashed body. So I added 2.5 inches to the frame length and lengthened the drive shaft on the Jimmy and swapped the body. Now I have a great, mechanically sound chevy and a pre smog vehicle. Was hoping I could still hang out here even if its not what your used to seeing?

This is how Tweekers prep for paint. And the reason I didnt use the Jimmy.

I need to do a shackle flip and loose the blocks that were on the K5 lift kit. Then I want to get it up on some 38's, these 35's look a little too small IMHO. Im looking at a 14 bolt that I can re gear to 488 or so and a disc conversion . This is just a tow / recovery rig for a tube car that I am building.

I like it :waytogo:.

I am building a 62 Willy's wagon for my dad right now, still the Willy's frame, but, everything else was once in a K5. 350 engine, built 700 trans, hybrid gm dodge 208 t-case, 12 bolt and a D44 with 4.56's and all chevy steering and brakes as well.

Thanx max 02. Its kinda of funny how the Jeep folks turn their noses up when they find out its a blazer. And most of the Blazer guys just cant understand why I changed a beautiful Blazer body for that thing. I am having fun creating something different and to be honest I couldnt of made the Jeep look this good with Jeep components.

Sweet looking rig...:waytogo: And is there really a place called Niceville, Fl. ? How nice...
yours as well.
There are purists on both the Samurai side and the Blazer side that don't like my rig, but it is exactly what I wanted.

Yes, Niceville does exist, lol. It is between Panama City and Pensacola, FL up on the NW panhnadle of FL. No rocks to crawl on down here though, hoping to move back to NM, or UT or CO after I retire from the military.

Well if ya get back as far as So Cal look us up. And If you have a build thread on that thing feel free to post it up on my Forum. The Zuki guys would love to see it further than the few pics I posted of it. www.socalultimate4x4.com :thumb:

Finally got around this weekend to doing a shake down run. Did a 185 mile loop through San Diego's back country to the desert floor and back home. Only issue was a fan shroud got loose and took out my new electric fan and good used radiator. :doah:We did the Mcgyver thing and drove her home. Other than a few loose bolts I was really impressed with what the streched Blazer could do. High steer is next. Thanks for all the help here guys.:thumb:

I always have liked the 2door jeep body style. excellant job on the swap.
Curious though was there something wrong with the jeep frame and drivetrain ? Also curious to know if the k5 frame and drivetrain set up has atvantages over the jeep frame and drivetrain. the axles are pretty much the same strength. the jeep also has crossover already. engines are the same 350/360 who knows. What you have is unique and I love unique :thumb:

The Jeep was an underpowered 258 six cylinder with a three speed. It had a worn out SOA without high steer. and two really tired dana 44's on mushy leafs. The frame was in great shape but I didnt what to convert everything over. The Blazer was a 77 with a good running gear, lift, transfercase, 350ci, 350 auto with a shift kit, and a very clean frame. I just streched the frame and rear drive shaft 2.5" and slapped it on. It lifted it even though Im sitting right on the frame so it accomplished everything I wanted easily. Plus it is starting to get hard to find parts for old Jeeps. Chevy parts are avaliable in the middle of Mexico or any where for that matter. I was suprised at how many parts were the same as Chevy. Same steering box, master cylinder, front axles d44's and a bunch of small things.

Hell, those old jeeps had a ton of GM parts right from the factory, I see no harm. When my dimmer switch in the K5 died, I yanked the one out of my 89 YJ on a hunch. Same damn thing :D

Yeah, Im always quick to tell everyone that it's really a Blazer. Mostly positive remarks but expecting better reviews after the high steer setup and rear shackle flip is done and I can loose the blocks. Anyway I like it a lot better, it still flexes pretty good but gives a nice firm ride even with out the torsion bar. I think the 2.5 inch stretch on the frame gives it a better ride than the stock 106.5 inch Blazer wheel base. A buddy has a blazer about the same year and the washboard roads just kills him. I dont even notice them. The only difference I can see is my leafs are a little thinner than his and he is running the military 37" BFG's and Im running 35" MTR's.
