got slammed by a k10 pickup on thursday morning and went spinning off the road. this really sucks but i'm focusing on some positive points; i didn't roll, no real injuries to anyone involved, i had a 5 gallon gas can in the back that didn't break loose and blow me up....things could have been a lot worse. so even though i'd love to go back in time and avoid this, i have reasons to be thankful.

glad everyone was safe.at least you have your health.is the frame bent?you might could rebuild it or make a full time off road fun truck now with it.all is not lost.

my friend couldn't believe how calm i was about it all. sure i was (and am) very annoyed about it but i just told him that yelling and stuff won't fix the k5, reverse time and stop the wreck or solve anything.

once i got it home, reseated one rear tire and swapped out the other (wheel was bashed) i drove it some. i think the brake drum may be a little messed up so i'll check that out soon. tracks straight and rides well.

might just get a junkyard door, rattle can it and bang out the bedside and use this as a true beater. i'm considering some weird things too. swap an s10 body on? hmm....could be tricky but interesting. better mpg and narrower body for offroad. no matter what happens i want a real k5 in my garage, whether it's this one repaired or one i buy later.

edit: i don't want to get into specifics but if i get money from his insurance it will take a while. issues to sort out and the city may be involved because basically the intersection sucks. i'll leave it at that.

edit: idk about the frame. i haven't had much time to really check it out or take it anywhere but from a quick check and a test drive it seems good.

In the first pic, is that the K10 in the background? Kind of a dark blue?

I'd say you could fix it to look decent again, the door is an easy fix...replace it. The bedside is a bigger job but could be done in a weekend. That leaves the floor, rocker area which isn't so bad. Sure, insurance company would likely say total loss...but it looks save-able to me.

yep, that's the k10 in the background. not pretty.

since my k5 is several inches taller than stock thanks to the tires and lift the other truck hit pretty low and didn't penetrate very far. floor seems fine but it has some rust anyway so i planned to put in a patch panel anyway. planned that about 6 years ago actually...procrastinator. ha.

Kind looks like the rear axle is shoved back alittle, but might be just the angle of the picture.

I hate to say this.looks that way to me also.In the second pic the rear of the bed side is folded out when the truck hit it the tire moved back under the rear flap causing the fold

axle position is fine. i thought it was knocked back too but the wheel got bent enough to make it look that way. some of his paint is on the rear fender so he made actual contact with it, probably just as i started to spin.

So your K5 got whacked by a K10. What's the chances of that happening these days? Neither are that common to see on the road now.

my friends and i all had that same thought. slim chance of those two meeting. i see more corvettes and CTS-Vs in my area than k5s (aside from my own of course).

as far as getting it roadworthy again, i pulled the drum off and found out why the brakes were rubbing; one of the retaining pins got knocked out. no problem, i just need to find a store that actually has one in stock.

its not as bad as i was thinkin in my head.looks like just some bad trail damage.:eek1:really could be rebuilt from the looks of it.all the metal could be bought and replaced with new.most of what is damaged is sold as repair panels.the rocker and box area will be the toughest to fix i think.

Glad everyone is ok. Whatever you do, DO NOT fix, attempt to fix or repair anything until the insurance stuff has been handled. If you start fixing stuff then you will get less money or no money at all. Seen this happen waaay too many times. If you need a vehicle to drive in the meantime get a rental vehicle and let the other guys insurance pay for it (you will have to pay out of pocket initially but will get reimbursed). :deal:

good thought scott.and very good advise.unless the truck has been appraised for damages i wouldnt do anything with it.you never know what these insurance guys can pull.and if lawyers get involved they need to see the truck as is was after the accident.as hard as tat will be notto tear into it and try and fix it.
