K5 lift (12" Voodoo)

I have thought about rockwells but they are pretty slim in this neck of the woods. They would help because of the top loader right? I will probably have to get new drive shafts make any way because I still have the half ton "toothpick" shafts. As I plan on running 40s.
The reason for not going smaller is because 90% of the work is already done but I may still go smaller.

I think everyone's concern is not with the ride, but with the thousands you will spend on custom drive shafts, and then have a bumpy ride.

Where you could have a smaller lift, not crazy driveshaft angles, and have a decent ride for less money.

Hi all!
Long time viewer first time poster.

Seems hard to believe you were a long time viewer if you still made the decision to buy a set of 12" lift springs.

It's your truck and your money; do what you like, but you aren't going to find a lot of cheering fans on CK5.

seems hard to believe you are a long time moderator but apparently didn't read it all

Hi all!
Long time viewer first time poster.

Ok so it begins here. BTW I did research with little luck. I bought a so called 8" lift off craigslist for my K5. I know 6" is max for the shorty but i figured i could make the 8" work. So in an afternoon with some beer we put the springs & shocks in. Drank few more, stood back and looked. The thing was huge! Did some measurements turns out its a 12" lift.

seems he thought they were 8" springs but turns out they are 12" springs and like most, he is all excited with the big truck look without realizing what else it will entail

He also said it is a pure mud rig. It doesn't really need to flex, does it? Oh, and how small will a 40" look with 12" of lift?

Yeah, the Rockwells will help with the drive shafts I would imagine.

The sh*t slinging begins! Opinions without reading. I know its not ideal and I intended on putting in a 8" but now will the cost of new springs and shocks ~$700 along with 1 ton drive shafts be less than just getting the shafts for the 12"

One ton driveshafts????

What axles are you running?

I'm running 14ff/10b looking for a 60. I was going to have the yokes worked or new ones to take bigger joints. I would like to go at least with 1 ton strength. Machine Service in Green Bay Im thinking is where I would go.

Yah, didn't d60s even come with 1310 yokes?

Yeah. I went back and re-read. 3/4 ton axles, TH7 00R4/NP208, keeping the slip yoke, and 40" tires. I'm not trying to be a dick here, but that really sounds like a recipe
for disaster...........

Someone said getting shafts for that lift would be around $7-800 each to do it right. If thats true thatll be lets say $1500 in D-shafts. If you lower it your looking at 7-800 for your new lift kit like you said plus another $7-800 for both driveshafts so around $1500 total.

But you can sell what you just bought recoup some monies
End up with a better ride depending on what lift you go with
And save a few bucks while having a better functioning rig.

Sounds like I need to win the lottery no matter which route I go.

Yah it's not as easy or cheep as the hillbillys down the road (that break there stuff all the time cuz it's not done correctly) make it seem ehhhh?

If you want big trucks, fast trucks, clean trucks etc, you gotta have money. Not many ways around it:popcorn:

Craigslist and for sale sections are your best friend when on a budget.

I just bought $3000 worth of brand new fox shocks off a ford raptor for $700 cuz I found a guy on a local forum post them in the for sale section who got them cheap from a buddy who built two raptors for sema.. Look for sweet deals. They are out there

I am not sure if you can make a single yoke driveshaft work with that much lift.

I made one work with 10" of lift when everyone told me it wouldn't work. I matched the angles perfectly, front was a different story. The front worked for the most part but I had way too much travel. I had to take the stock cv apart and rework it.

Took that thing together and put it apart several times to make sure everything cleared. It did pretty well but like I said my short slip yoke was part of my problem.

Go to the wrecking yard and get busy looking around. Your still gonna have to spend some money somewhere but if you can try to make it work for next to nothing then you mine as well. All you are out is some time

I may try redneck engineering & cobble something together. Only because I know I will be close to home.
