what is he running suspension wise? I see the homebrew shackle flip but lift leaves as well?

ahh I located the photos on your site. Didn't mention the narrowed front end. Looks like it will be fun.

I think I just found a new friend. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

How can we get more details about this?

Re: K5 on 2 1/2 tons and 49\'s

He has long chevy rears but they measure to be about 60" he says... so not completly sure about those. I do know he did a home brew rear shackle flip with a bit of lift. I know he has 56" springs up front with the long side to the rear. Helps move the front axle forward 3" (I think). He also made custom drop brackets / boxed the front frame for the relocated front spring hangers forward about 4" from stock and down about 3". So stock springs but about 6" of lift I think.

One big problem was the front axle and it's large top loaded pumpkin / diff and his oil pan / exhaust headers / front drive shaft. By moving the axle forward it put the top loaded diff closer to the front of the motor / away from the oil pan sump. I think he plans on running stock manifolds but not sure what was decided about the routing of the exhaust pipe. With manifolds he can run his square shaft to the high pinion of the rockwell and not hit anything, with headers it was a problem.

So, I hope I didnt steal any of his thunder but he (Balls of fire) doesnt post up much. Again, I've watched him building this up over the last 6 months or so and know a little about it but not everything.

Re: K5 on 2 1/2 tons and 49\'s

the rear springs are supposed to be 63's, but they measure just over 60... they're from a 94 suburban. The front springs are 56's. he made his own mount for the front spring eye of the front spring. The front spring shackle was moved forward in the frame and extended. The rear shackle was setup with a homebrew shackle flip (rear spring, front hanger from a truck).

he's actually running long side front.... long side rear would net a 6 inch axle push forward... running long side front puts the axle only 2 inches forward the same as ours with 52's.

If you two don't quit it, i'm going to pull this car over!

I'll get you some better pics. So today, we took it out to see if it was trimmed enough... well we should have installed his shocks and/or bump stops first. not 10 feet from the road, we hit a hole and the front end bounced hard enough that the brake line from the caliper hit the crossmember and snapped the fitting.

not a problem.. we still have rear brakes, right? wrong... turns out the bleed job left much to be desired in the rear... so back to home. Well as he's turning onto the drive, just in front of his house, he doesn't get it turned quick enough (full hydro valve takes a lot of turns lock to lock) and with no brakes he runs head on into the back of his 2001 Dodge 3500 dually. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif The front spring hangers nailed the bumper pretty good so its mostly bumper damage except the rear fender where the bumper got pushed into it.

I didn't have my camera with me but i'll try to get some shots tomorrow.
