You will see that I am have been on / off of here since nearly the beginning (2001 for me) and wanted to give you a quick history before I get into my questions. I started all of this by buying a 1972 GMC Jimmy in 1995-1996 or so, Big Orange was awesome. I drove it on my first date with the woman that became my wife in 2000, I wheeled it off road mildly for several years and there was a specific trip that I had maybe 2" of clearance on each side to fit between two trees and I made the decision that night if I was going to get more extreme I needed a different rig. The Jimmy was too nice to mess up so I restored it and sold it, you will actually see old posts about that from me though the picture links are long dead.
So since then I have owned Wranglers, Toyotas and wheeled from mild stockers to wild (for me) locked F&R / 36" TSLs at Windrock, Tellico, etc. I have come back full circle now, currently getting rid of a YJ with 5 speed/manual because I want an automatic and really want a v8. In the Jeep world that is $$$$ so I got looking at full size Broncos (gasp!?) and K5 Blazers and they are in my price point ($2000-4000ish) that leaves me a little cash to build it up over time.
With that said, I have stuff up for sale, buyers / traders on the line and when all that settles down I will have a fist full of hundreds and officially on the hunt. But I am getting ready now and thus my questions!
I "think" that I am buying / building a mild wheeler that will see more time in front of my office than Windrock. So I want to be able to hit the interstate and not bounce all over the place / death wobble / take the DOORS off, TOP off, neoprene / waterproof seat covers and drive it back and forth to work like I have for years in my Wrangler.
FIRST QUESTION! Will it fit? I have read the threads about the size tires to lift / minor trimming, but not really been able to find a good chart of how tall the rigs are afterwards? I am looking at 89-91 as my top choice (88 and older ok too, really want 350/5.7L and prefer fuel injection) and they are 73.4" stock height on what I assume are 30s.
Assuming for the moment, say 4" lift (shackle flip / springs up front / ORD setup) and 35s, I think that is 7" approx higher than stock? Can anyone tell me if you fit / and by how much, into your standard garage door? (Pics!?)
Then a related question that I have not seen / found yet a specific thread on, but another 'trend' is to flare / cut the fenders and run stock or closer to stock suspension with the bigger tires?! Is anyone have a build I could look at with say stock or near stock and 35s? I assume I would be up to 4 inches shorter than the lifted version?
Being able to park inside the garage at night is pretty important to me so my "build" will likely be around that concept and limitation. If I build a new house it will have the taller doors for this very reason but for now I think standard garage doors are 84" (7') and you lose a bit of that where the door itself hangs down some?
Thanks in advance for the help and YES, I have already ponied up the cash again for full membership, was actually a paying member WAAAAY back in the day and have a sticker somewhere running around here from that era!! (Need to ask for a new one now!)
