CK5:

I bought a rear wind deflector off of Ebay and want to get it installed this week. I have a few points/questions:

- The actual placement of the deflector seems fairly self explainatory. I'll center to deflector from driver to passenger side by measuring. For the front to back placement the brackets seem to line up with a "body line" at the very rear of the fiberglass top. Not too bad...Can anyone second this?

- I know I need "well nuts" which I have. The O.D. of the well nut is 1/2" and the insert is 1/4-20. After marking/locating the (6) mounting holes, should I drill the 1/2" hole all the way through the top, or should I try to keep the hole a blind hole and not drill into the interior?

I've searched the forum for these specifics or any pictures but couldn't turn up the answers to theses questions. The thread that the pictures were in were so old that the pics were no longer online.

Any advice, or pics (of the inside or outside mounting area or other) would be appreciated. Otherwise, I'll just be sure to have plenty of silicone on hand :haha:

Thanks in advance!

I seem to recall that the angle of the wind deflector mounts does line up with the curvature at the rear of the top.

You want to holes to be blind. Pretty sure if you look, that is where the top is much thicker. There is (or was) a metal support in the back across that area.

Unfortunately no pics, but I think you've got it. Just to verify, you'll want to make sure that the deflector hangs out over the rear of the top a bit. If the mounts line up with the top, I think you'll be good though.

If the well nuts are rubber, you wont need silicone

Yep. Had mine (rubber well nuts) in there for 10 years or so, haven't had any issues with them coming loose, and unfortunately I've hit a few fairly sturdy branches with the spoiler.

Awesome guys! Thanks for the replies. Can't wait to get this thing on.

I was playing with a spare "well nut" today and these things are pretty slick. I understand why the silicone would be unnecessary.

Next post should be some pics and a report about how the exhaust fumes stay out w/ the rear window down (my main goal here).
