K5 Rear Window sash to window install??

I'm installing a new window sash on my K5 endgate window, does anybody have a recommended procedure for installing the sash to the bottom of the window?
I bought the sash "filler" (really just a thin piece of rubber that runs the lenght of the sash) with the sash, but when I put it in with the window, the window still isn't tight in the sash. The nasty old rusted sash I spent two hours getting off the window look like it had some glue or caulk or rtv or something in there.
Does anybody know the right way?

go to savage auto (KOI) and ask them for windshield glass adhesive, it's a tar like substance and it will not come loose for anything. Best stuff I have used on windows.

So You use an adhesive? What happens if the window breaks, how you get the sash from the window, without destroying it? Just pry all the pieces loose carfully?
