K5 softop?

Does anyone still make a soft top for K5's? Can't seem to find any.

No, all the companies that used to are not anymore.
There is a guy here that is considering doing it as a business, and I am thinking about it too.
I already had a couple and had issues with the design and I am trying to improve the design and then see how much it would cost, If I feel it could be good business then I will start.

can back is supposed to start production again this year. go to can backs site and get on their list. I signed up as interested the other day

Cuz it gets people to their site. Then people look at their other products and spend some cash.

But I would bet that it is just an old ad.

can back was suposed to be in production over a year ago i lost interest and i am workin with a local shop for mine

I've emailed them and they said they will make them but the $1400 price tag is BS in my opinion:rolleyes: I asked him if they could make one for less if it wasn't engineered to carry a rack on top and didn't get much of a response. All i want is a way to throw a top on if it starts to rain:crazy: Don't need to carry the world.

I also contacted bestop. They told me they no longer make them and could not point me in the direction of a distributor that may still have one other than calling each one listed on their website. I also asked for copies of their pattern and they told me they no longer have them...more BS:mad:

Someone needs to go into business making these, I don't think you'll get rich doing it but if you're in a similar industry it will make you some money for sure:wink1:

I was just going through my petersens mags and saw one on their blue project Chevy Blazer with the 90's chevy truck front end. It had a soft top but no idea what it was. May be in another issue i have.

Looked good on it too. :(

found it ;)

Oh and i'm sure the company doesn't sell them anymore.

Kinda sucks but i'm just gonna remove my top completely anyhow :doah:

1400 is not so out of line, depending on quality full or half vert?

I disagree, this is almost double what everyone else was charging just a few years ago, in fact the last bestop I bought was less than $600 shipped directly from them and that was in 2005:eek1:.

$1400 isthe cost for the top. Lets look at the other costs.

$95 for shipping...This is crazy high plus I hate flat rate shipping especially on items that are larger and real money can be saved by only charging actual shipping.

Now on to the options

$300 - Optional Cargo Cross Bar Kit (two bars) (to mount basket or other accessories)

Isn't being able to haul stuff on top their selling point?? Why charge more for two bars:rolleyes:

$399 - Optional Roof Basket 52"(L) x 48"(W) (requires cross bar kit)

this price is about right more than I would pay for one but the price is consistent with others on the market

$200 - Optional Light Bar: Mounts 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 lights

Bit high in my opinion considering one can be purchased for half the cost to mount it on the roof of the cab:crazy:

Just my $.02

Well I haven't seen can backs in person but it looks like it's pretty good quality. My good buddy in high school had a soft top on his 85 and it was a big piece of sh$t. Don't know who made it, but he paid $500-$600 dollars and it only lasted maybe 2 yrs before the snaps starting pulling thru the fabric. It gotta couple tears in it as well from folding it down all the time, i guess, but overall I wouldn't want whoever made his soft top

i thought 1400 was for ur local shop to fab one up, i didnt know it was from someone who had one in "production"

I talked to a guy at ORD a few months back. He told me that they had some leads on a company to make soft tops. He also told me that it was not Can Back, and would not tell me who.
