Has anybody seen this? I drove out to get some stuff off a 1991 a guy is parting out. The tailgate glass is covered with a black grid. Little lines spaced out like 1/8" vertically and horizontally so there are just little holes to see through, like a window screen. I'm thinking this is an alternative to tint. Didn't get to look through it, just peek in through the tailgate access panel. I was wondering if it works OK as the tint film on my tailgate glass is getting pretty messed up.

Also, anybody want some stuff if I go back down there? Has power mirrors and complete front clip. I think he is selling the TBI motor complete, so no picking.

My 89 has it, pretty optioned out because my other 89 did not have it.

My buddies 90 Blazer had it too.

I would imagine it was an option

That was the factory tint for the 89-91 era trucks. I guess the deep tint was just too dark for the back so they switched.....

Any idea what he'd want for the power mirrors? Just the mirror assemblies and maybe the door panel switch, no harness.

I will ask him about the mirrors.

So does anybody have an opinion on the grid tint? Is it easier or harder to see through? Advantage for security? Does it look strange or not match with the side window tinting? Is it more durable?

I like mine. Pretty easy to see out of too, my glass has been through alot so there are a couple scratches on mine that I don't think will ever come out. But my weather stripping is and was gone when I got the truck, well not gone but the seal on the tailgate is basically half of what it should be.

Its hard to see into. about the same as the normal tint on my top windows, but the back is easier to see out of at night

I'm moving talk of prices and such to PM to avoid the appearance of selling parts in the garage.

Hey Luke, are the doors still on it? If so are they rusty or dented? My doors are poop. Also hows interior condition? What color?

The interior is blue. All of the seats are gone (the fronts are in my rig now). The carpet and side panels are trash. The floor is rotted through almost all the way down both sides. You can see inside the truck through the quarter panels. The interior trim should still be good - all of the plastic molding on the A and B pillars, etc. It looks like the console and sun visors are good. The headliner fabric is swaying in the breeze. I didn't note the shape of the dash. The grill and lights look like good donors. I didn't pay much attention to the doors - I will have to ask for pics.

Ok. I imagine the doors are rusty, if not worse than mine if the rest is gone. Just thought id ask. Whats he doing with the tailgate? Wouldnt hurt to grab the motor and cable off of it. If they still work id be interested.

So I've probably seen this kind of glass before and didn't notice. I've heard that the factory tinted glass was more likely to shatter than the clear. Something about tempered vs. forged. That I can never find factory tinted tailgate glass seems to support this. The tint film worked out fine for a few years, but then some camping gear rubbed a hole in. Then after a few more years it developed a giant wrinkle across the whole thing. This grid design seems like it would be pretty durable, but still keep the heat out.
