i have a 80 k5 that i use for bouncing around the desert. it does not have plates and will probably never be legal enough to get any. i need a trailer to take it to the dunes ( the ones you drive up on-with a hitch).
has anyone built one? would i need one or two axles? does anyone have any plans for one?

appreciate all the help.

I would definitely use two axles. It's much more stable in highway speeds with heavy load than with one axle.

I'm too lazy to stick shift, that's why I prefer autotranny.

Two axles, definitely, with good brakes on both axles.

I recall someone on this site had posted a picture and some details of a trailer he custom-built to haul his Suburban (on 40's, I think). It was quite some time ago. Maybe a search about "trailers" from more than a year ago, and just sift thru the results...

It's always darkest just before it goes pitch-black...

I can get you a tandem axle trailer with brakes for around a grand, brand new. But getting it to Saudi Arabia could be a challenge.

Sorry, the first one was wrong, I forgot about brakes and lights.

did a search and didnt find much. does anyone have any pictures or know of any companies so i could make a generic one using pictures as a guide?
bigk, the shipping of the trailer alone would cost me about $2k. excluding insurance, import tax (12%).
i am figuring a couple of axles from the junkyard, some steel and i should be set, am i oversimplifying this?

I was lucky I guess, I found a trailer for sale that was used for hauling a bobcat I would guess. But any way it is a 10 ton trailer with 3 axles. It is the pintel hook type. So I know it pulled something pretty big. Had my buddy's k5 on it. It's a little bit tight but it will do the trick. I plan on hauling my Jimmy when she's done....

i've got some designs I'll dig up. I made mine ultra heavy duty, but you could simplify it a lot and be ok. Make sure you check with your local laws on width. We have laws here that specify 2 widths, one for trailers on the highway only and one for all others. I have mine at highway width. It has drive over fenders but a blazer fits ok between them anyway. Let me dig up some pics and see what I can do.

btw, you definately want 2 axles and probably need brakes on one of them.
