K5 Wheelie on the Street

Long stop light! lol But damn!

No question, that Blazer has some beans. That is always awesome :saweet:

But lifted CJ's, even with the stock AMC V8 can do that. Like mentioned, it's a bid deal in drag racing. You intentionally raise the COG to make weight transfer to the back for more traction, and if you make it high enough with the wheelbase short enough (or enough HP) they do wheelies.

Stupid idiots who record video vertically!

That is pretty cool, but the video sucks with such a narrow view and long light to wait for.
Too bad there is no info on the K5 or engine.

My first blazer was a 1977
after putting in Lower gears and a Detroit locker it could do wheelies on the street and I thought it was so fun until I twisted the driveshaft and didn’t have the money to fix it

I saw a guy shear off his rear pinion using 4 low to pull a wheelie in a parking lot..got it almost a foot off the ground, then "BANG",and it dropped back down like a rock, and the rear shaft proceeded to beat the undercarriage to death!...the amount of laughter from the people watching was memorable..guy must have felt pretty stupid!....

I guess that is why in the owners manual it states "Lock hubs before engaging 4 low"..(especially if its a 10 bolt!).

My favorite wheelie is this one--proves you don't need a short wheelbase to do good wheelies..:D..

That guy is local to me. See him at all the big bogs. Not saying it's not impressive, but it does have Rockwells,a drop box in it and a very healthy BBC. Super low gearing makes that easy to do. He can do it in out in the middle of the pit too, which I think is more of an accomplishment.

Ummm, why haven’t you posted videos?

That's the whole idea behind gassers.
That's not why they are like that though. Tire technology back then wasn't what it's like today. They needed all the help they could get, to get those early slicks to hook up properly. So they did what they had to, to transfer weight to the back. So you'll see a lot of nose high stance, engines set back, altered wheelbases, etc.
