K5 won't shut off with key

Power/ACC and ecm b should not be powered with key hot. They should have power in start, run, or acc position.

Did you mean "off"?

And what would supply power to them or how is it getting there in first place?

Here's a new one to throw at you......I removed the Power/ACC fuse and now it works as it should. Truck shuts off with the key.

Yes I meant off.
Ok that helps narrow it down. What do you have for a radio. Radio has a hot and key power connection.
But it could be any power touching another power wire

No radio hooked up at the moment. There is a yellow hot for the radio but I have it capped so it don't blow a fuse.

It could be in the ignition switch. There is a shoe the sides a contact to close the circuits needed to start and run. The ignition switch has a small amount of adjustment.

Are you talking about the lock cylinder or the switch that mounts to the steering column?

Did you have a voltage gauge before, or an idiot light ?

I read something about the field excitation wire to the alternator is connected to the idiot light circuit and it requires a diode if you install a gauge. the field wire will backfeed and not allow the truck to shut off.

Try unplugging the field wires at the alternator and see if the problem goes away.... if it does, they sell a little kit to install at the alternator that corrects the problem.

@wasted wages

What is the field wire? I have the "one wire plug" and the cable that comes from the battery to post on the back of the alternator.

EDIT: Never mind...saw the link.

I'll give it try right now.

Nope....didn't make a difference. Thanks for the info. Never hurts to try.

As long as I keep the "Power/Acc" fuse unplugged, everything works as it should.
