can anyone give me ant info on them i got the kind that goes on the heater hose. no instructions. and alot of people tell me they are easy to ruin if you dont hook the up right. i think its a kats but not really sure.thanks

im in on this one....i am gettin ready to order on fron advanced auto, its katz brand that goes in the hoses also but there are 2 kinds one for the heater hoses and one for the rad hose....i have no idea which one.....

found one on a van i took the motor out of and cant find any arrows on it for which way coolant runs through. it has an inlet/ outlet? on one side of it(cilynder shaped) and has a inlet /outlet on the end where the wires for the cord goes. dont know for sure if it is a kats or not? any help would appreciated.

Have you tried the manufacturer's website or google? Wish I could help but I've never installed one personally. Lots of google hits though but I didn't find anything too useful at first glance other than this:

Was interesting seeing several links that dealt with the benefits of a block type heater versus a flow type FWIW.

i did the google earlier today and what ive read is that the one that goes in the frost plug is best. the inline one i got was free so ill go with it if i can find the instructions for it.

Totally understand going with free. I was trying to find an installation how to for you but didn't. Maybe changing the search criteria would have helped but I am pretty busy trying to research my own stuff right now. Sorry. Hopefully one of the other cold weather gurus will post something up to help you out. Wish I could help you out more because having any type of heater is better than none.

Best of luck with the search and I hope you don't install it wrong. That link I provided you talked about them going bad from improper installation (thought you might appreciate that little heads up). Hope you get the info you need and get it installed the right way. Wish I could be of more help.

all the ones i read says that you have to install them the right way or they will burn out. but no one goes into detail. but for now i had one of the kind that is a magnet and i put it on the side of the block, on the drivers side under the header. well see how that one works for now.

I have used a few of the inline water heaters. Had good luck so far.

In all of the ones I have installed, the element goes in the hose on the engine side.

Not sure if they are all that way. Take it for what its worth.

From what I have read, the flow heaters have to have the t-stat open to do any good. Seeing as how Kert posted something, I'd milk his brain dry for info since he is da man (well, one of several around here IMO).

You may end up finding that you like the magnet type. Sounds like you picked a decent location to install it. I am curious as to how well the magnet holds up (I have the freeze plug type) so post up your review. I'm not sure the freeze plug type is good enough on my 400 SBC because they are basically steam cooled and it seems to be lacking.

They have 3 on the parts america site, one for the rad, heaterhose and freeze plug....The first 2 seem easiest to install but inm not sure, ill just wait and c what comes up on here and what you guys like...

When I did my searching the one that i liked the most but have yet to buy is the freeze plug one and everyone said buy two. The freeze plug one makes the most sense although if you can run the heater hose one and bypass the thermostat then it would work good tooI like the freeze plug idea because it heats the engine also.

Ill have to look at my 6.2 and see if there is a freeze plug that i can get at to change it with the one you spoke of. Anyone do it on a 6.2..?
