So the time has come to get rid of the rig. :( But I need help deciding if it is worth parting out or just sell as a fully built rig. I remember thinking on multiple occasions that it would have been easier and less expensive to buy a rig already built, but at the same time would not have traded all the long nights and feeling of accomplishment and knowledge you get doing a frame off. I have been away from the K5 scene for awhile and am not really sure what my rig would be worth. Any help would be great. The basic rundown is a 75', D60, 14 bolt locked, 350ho carbed (17000k), built 700r4, 208tc, custom interior (98' dash, newer seats, tunes, etc.), 8" lift, 39.5 iroks, roll cage, hydra assist steering, list can go on and on. Having a hard time thinking about selling. Always told my kids that I would never sell, but keeping the house is more important than the toys. Here is an older pic.

I guess the answer depends on what you are expecting to get out of it $$$ wise as a complete vehicle.

There are some nice parts there that will go quickly, but once those are sold you'll have a LOT of parts that nobody wants... at least not for any significant amount of money. And once it's partially stripped, it's going to be a lot harder to get rid of.

Take a look at the current vehicles in the "Complete Vehicles For Sale" section to get a sense of what the market is like now... It's tough out there, so I don't think a number like $5000 - $6000 is going to happen. There isn't a lot of discretionary money floating around..... but again, once you sell the engine, axles, lift kit and wheels (the easy stuff to sell for $$$) how much will you really have in your pocket anyway??? :dunno:

Might be worth taking a lower price on the complete vehicle than you want, to ultiimately get more cash out of it. Plus, I think it would be depressing to have to dismantle a truck you put so much time into, and see it sitting in your driveway like that...probably better to send it down the road as a running vehicle.

Parting isnt really worth it beyond the axles and wheels. Plus the time you have to invest putting into taking it apart. If you took the time you were gonna dump into dismanteling it and say picked up more hours or got a second job I bet you'd come out ahead and still have your truck.

If your really strapped for cash as said, pull the wheels and tires and find some 31in rollers for it for now. I'd put money you dont get 25% of what you have into it and thats one beautiful truck...

Maybe a downsize. Sell the axles and tires maybe. But hang on to it. If it means that much you'll regret it. It's in super nice shape. I hate to see you get screwed and have it get destroyed..

Thanks for the reassurance all, that it might not be the right time. Spoke to the wife this morning and she said to keep it even though it almost got me a divorce during the build. So if she says to hang onto it, I know I should. As for being strapped, I am not there yet. Just trying to prepare for the future when my house loan changes. Thanks again guys. A few solid words from others is what you need to think sometimes.
