Went to the body shop tonight and the truck isn't going into the booth until Thursday so I was able to install my new Kennedy Quick Heats. When I removed the old ones I found 6 Autolites and 2 Delcos. The Delcos were #1 and #3. Those were the ones right under the A/C bracket that I guess can be a pain to change. Looked pretty carboned up like they hadn't been working. They were all easy to remove especially with no fenders on the truck and none were swollen. All the electrical plugs were pretty corroded from the old glow plug blades rusting. I disassembled each plug, cleaned them, and slightly bent the sides down so they would be tight on the new plug blades. I installed the new GP's and put all the wires back on. Now the test. With the resistor set up in the glow light stays on longer but I noticed it stayed on a lot longer with the new plugs then it did yesterday with the old plugs w/bad connections. When the light went out I barely touched the starter and it fired right up! Not a single puff or cloud of smoke at all out of the tailpipe and almost not even any smell. Success!![]()
Boom goes the dynamite! Glad it worked out man. A healthy glow system and good battery cables works wonders on the old gals... If you haven't done cables yet, grab some welding cable and make some up as your next little project.
