I got a free tape deck from the junkyard a few days ago, it is a Kenwood KRC-1007. The fm radio works perfectly, but I cannot get it to play a tape. It has autoreverse. When I put in a tape, it will continuously switch between forward and reverse, without making any sound. I have put a cleaning cassette in, but it has not helped so far. Does anyone recognize this issue, is there anything I can do to fix it? I would like to use the tape player with a tape adapter to plug in my cd player or a mp3.

I'm sorry, did we go back in time to 1989? :D

I'm surprised I know of someone who has a cassette tape.

Got it fixed at the electronics shop for $27, needed a belt and general cleaning apparently. Also got an almost new pair of 4x10s that a friend pulled from his S-10.
Just because you've got an older vehicle doesn't mean you can't upgrade to a new radio. Kenwood's KRC-1007 Cassette receiver with shaft mount design is perfect for older cars or to keep that classic "knob" look in your car. With auto-reverse, fast-forward, rewind, plus a clock, maybe it's time to get rid of that old radio that distorts everytime you turn the dial.
I do need to get an antenna, because the original windshield in the truck has been replaced with one without an antenna. Has anyone tried a hide-away antenna, if so, how is the reception? I saw one at AutoZone that was a black strip about 18" long for $20.
