Just got off the phone with Kert and I'm fairly certain that I'm going to be getting one of his crossmembers.

the only issue I'm worried about is whether or not I'll be able to keep using it if I ever get off my ass and swap in a 6.0 like I want. after talking with Kert, there is concern that the oilpan might not clear anymore.

am I lucky enough to have someone here with his crossmember and a 6.0/5.3?

if not, can anyone with a 6.0/5.3 in a 1st gen get me a pic of the underside of the engine installed?

honestly I should probably just order the damn thing since finances have tightened up a bit and who knows when I'll attempt the swap, but might as well cover my bases if I can. :D

I *think* all you have to do is call him and have him make a new lower "hoop" for an LS motor to clear. What I'd do if it'll work on a sbc is just order it intending it to be used for the LS and rock a bit of extra clearance until you do the swap:dunno: Kert would probably answer any of those questions you might have though.

All I am certain of is that his crossmember is BEEFY and super convenient if pan access is needed:waytogo:

Ash,

Just go for it man.... :)

If the budget is getting tight, you won't be doing a motor swap any time soon. Besides, even if the crossmember is 100% wrong for the new motor swap, I'll bet ya you can sell it used to someone here for a good price.

Gawd it feels good getting to tell other people to spend money! :haha:

Fairly certain it won't fit, and bottom tube would have to be modified. That didn't stop me, not much a welder can't fix! There are also a whole host of various oil pan selections for those ls motors that "could" possibly clear that mount.

thanks IGOR! I wonder if I could get kert to just make it a little deeper. do you remember how much you had to add to yours?

just read through your build thread. last post is from last year and you were waiting on a tranny? any progress? your truck looks SICK btw! nice build!

I don't remember how much I added to mine - I cut it until it fit. Then had to cut it again because I wasn't happy with it. I would guess it is an additional 4-6" I would have him go 6-10" deep - and not weld end plates on, then cut to fit.

You might ask y5mgisi what the distance on his is?

As for status of the Blazer:

I'm still waiting on my tranny after a year - but I told the guy not to hurry! :D (whoops! :doah:)

I have been consumed with a kitchen remodel since last fall. Our dishwasher leaked in November, and ruined the kitchen, family room, dining room, and living room. We tore those areas down to the studs. It is mostly complete now.

The blazer is buried under furniture, and related "stuff" that had to be moved out of house - in the garage right now.

Hopefully, late this summer I pull the trigger on a shop and can make some real progress! :woot:

I hear ya on getting buried by house stuff. I think I'm going to have to rebuild my deck before I get too deep into blazer stuff again. /doh!

atm I'm leaning towards just getting it as is. as greg mentioned, the 6.0 may be a pipe dream, so I shouldn't put too much effort into planning for it.

Dumb question, but why do you want Kert's cross member if you aren't swapping engines? Or are you?

I know it is cool as hell - but...

2 reasons. 1st, I have to remove my oil pan to fix an oil leak and I'd rather not have to pull the engine all the way out to do it. 2nd, I doubt my abilities to fix the leak on the first try so being able to remove the oil pan any time I like would be a bonus. :)

oh, and 3rd, it's cool. :D
