kia sportage?

Pondering what to get the wife for her next car. Has to be newish (maybe '99-up), inexpensive... and some sort of small SUV. I am pondering maybe a KIA sportage. Do those things have real frames on them? Whatever I get her, it needs a frame so I can put a REAL bumper on it... next time it'll be the other guys car that gets totalled. anyway, anyone have one of these little things? impressions/opinions? years/options to avoid?

its be a while since ive ben under it but mom has one 2003 i think and me and my dad have beat the hell out it and it runs like a champ weve even floped it once
