Kickass Hydro Bender Setup

Pump was $250 shipped from e-bay, hoses and fitting IIRC were around $100 total, ram was $100, work done to ram was $60. The cart that the bender sits on was free.

Sooo....roughly $500 without the bender.
Not bad. If you're in the biznitz you could earn that back in what, a day? :D

Very nice, how about the bender? Whered you pick that up?

p.s. I got my lincoln 215 welder, a bender is my next purchase and I don't want to have to do it twice.

Friendly comment...

Think about your safety when using your bender.. what happens if you have a failure... currently you are setting yourself up for a serious injury... think about a remote switch that allows you to step away from the work... as shown you are all tangled in it...
I have a foot switch,,, a 6 foot cord,,, and safety glasses all the time

update.. I see the brothers already made this suggestion.. remember how much load the thing is under.. (hear it creaking?)... you have to reset pins.. I was wondering about that.. on mine (jd4hd),, I just keep on bending.. no reset

Noted and agreed, however, a couple of things to point out. Unless a line bursts, hydraulic pressure isn't explosive. If a pin or bolt breaks, the ram isn't going to shoot out, it's limited by the flow of the pump. All of the components shown are steel, so if they're gonna let go, they're going to tear well before they break. I do inspect it regularly.

That being said, the switch on the post is temporary, I'm looking for a momentary hand or foot switch on a remote cord that's rated for 15 amps and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. (no pun intended)

There's no way to bend over a 45 with that ram without repinning, so I really can't stand back and watch it go...besides, if I'm 15 feet away, I can't see the degree ring.

do what I did.. paint the ring.. wipe it off.. then the degrees light up like they are on fire.. works great...

youre generally correct about the hydro pump limiting things .. its when those pins lunch/launch or worse yet.. the tube moves and catches you

I found my momentary foot switch at an electrical surplus supply house.. it was online.. sorry dont remember the link.. it was used,, but like new.. 20.00,,, 20amp,, american... very nice quality.. probably 200+ to some aircraft company at some point

go bendy go

you could use a realy, would take a little bit mor wiring, but you could save just useing any old switch.
