I tried posting pics, so screw the pics. I'll try explaining in detail so you guiys can picture them.

I have a complete lower kingpin kit and I'd like to get started so I can get the Dedenbears ( now known as Reid ) mounted.

On the lower kingpin, how and what do you use to remove the bearing race out of the inner "c"? I don't think a 3 or 4 jaw puller will work.

I have a black rubber gasket/seal but I don't know where it goes in relation to the bearing.

And final question, this one relating to the upper kingpin. I need to replace the little ring gaskets (both were cracked and tossed away) that go on first before the teflon bushings. GM says they are discontinued and I checked around the vendors, they're not included in the kingpin rebuild kits. So.... will an o-ring work, even if I find one with the right diameter?

Thanks.

I used a pipe coupler and a hammer. I think it was a 3/4" or 1" galvanized coupler, fit the hole well then just beat it out.

If you bought the whole kingpin kit it should have the upper seal, i'll look at home and see if i can find the Spicer number just in case.

Yeah what he said. The small rubber seal is for the upper. The lower only has the dust cap and the lower kingpin cap.

I don't have any tips or tricks to remove the lower race. I went in from the top and punched through the dust cap and pounded the race out that way. It mangles the cap, but it was getting replaced anyway.:wink1:

Thanks, I'll try punching it out tonight. I don't know what the heck is wrong with me and why I don't check the Pirate board.

The lower kingpin kit is ordered through gmpartsdirect.com... I went to the local dealership and told them I want all the part numbers for the lower kingpin and looks like I missed #34. I'm at work right now so I'll recheck the parts when I get home. I hope I have that part.

Yeah just for future reference check out "highhonda" on Pirate. He's got the best deals on all the Dana 60 rebuild parts. $50 per side for upper and lower rebuild kits. Free shipping if you PM him.

Yeah, I just realized I took the shaft when buying from gmparts.... I must be really tired when I browsed right past the kingpin kits on 4wdfactory. I could've used that hundred bucks elsewhere. I guess I'll take a tall glass of an energy shot before shopping again.

On a further note, I beat on the cap trying to drive out the race with a BFH and a socket. I got the cap out, but that race ain't moving. I used a punch, a socket (just a hair smaller than the opening), screwdriver, anything I can throw at it and it ain't moving. I'm gonna try an air chisel/hammer, but mine is missing so I'll check around for a loaner tomorrow.
And I am missing part #34 so I'm gonna order a pair next chance I get.

I was gonna order the kingpin kit from somewhere, but got it all that stuff at Fleetpride. Got both sides and the spindle kit for $125, and no shipping crap to worry about....Replacing the pins themselves was pretty easy, just fyi....

Yeah, I'm not even gonna **** with my pins, they don't show any score marks or pitting so I leave them the hell alone.

I have the 1" drive impact to handle that b!tch but I didn't get it for nothing. I may use it to tackle the kingpins on my '82 crew cab.

And that's a damn good price for both sides including spindle kits.

Weld a small bead to a race, some 1/2" long, and race should come off with ease :wink1:

Getting the lowers off can be a b!tch. I had a harder time with those than the kingpings themselves. But if you get a small punch and go around the outside of the dustcap, takes awhile, but eventually start to come out. If not, get a bigger hammer....

pop out every time for me with air hammer using button head punch. drive it out with the tin cap all as one.

Borrowing the air hammer from Jason4x4 and will tackle the races in the morning. I'll post up if any difficulties pop up.

Got the f'ing races out. Finally. Now I'm off to Harbor Freight to get a race/seal driver kit. Forgot to get it yesterday.

And I still need to order part # 34 in the pics, gonna be another week. my CC got blocked and cancelled due to unauthorized transactions so I'm getting money back and a new card is coming in the mail. So I'm stuck with a basic ATM card until then.

Done! The whole thing from removing races to installing new ones took 10 minutes. Sweet. I just b.s.'ed around with the ford 205 with my little son. He's almost 10 and wants to rebuild it with me. Gonna be fun!

Thank you for the help, guys!
