What happens if you use a stock chip with a vehicle with no knock sensor hooked up? My TBI harness was never made to work with a knock sensor, I'm wondering if I'll run into trouble using a factory bin.

If there is no knock sensor then you just won't have timing retard should the engine "knock".

Also if there is no KS siginal to the ECM. I believe it will set a 43. Once the code is set. The ECM will and can retard retard timing by as much as 20 degrees. To prevent engine damage from detonation. Causing poor performance.

You can disconnect the knock sensor and the ECM will not throw a code so not installing one would be no different.

If I unhook my knock sensor (single blue wire by the starter) my truck will set a code.

What I learned is that if the ECM is not hooked up to the knock computer/box/filter thing, it will show huge numbers of knocks and will retard the timing and throw a code. If the knock sensor itself is just disconnected from the knock box, it will show zero knocks and no problem (or so I've been told).

There is a switch in the prom/bin file you can unset related to the knock error code (43 I think?) to just disable that. I unset that, plus changed the knock retard enable temp to 305 degrees.

With the new bin file I'm playing with, I died in the intersection this morning turning left. Not fun. I'm not sure what caused it since I threw no codes or anything. I'm actually not sure if it was totally dead or in some catatonic state where the gas pedal did nothing. I restarted and all was good. My only guess right now is that it's VSS related. I don't have one and haven't changed anything to account for it.

That is odd, i forgot to connect my knock sensor once after having the wire off and mine did not set set a code. :dunno: I know for a fact my system is working correctly also since i've had winALDL hooked up and if i mash the skinny pedal hard enough i can get knock counts to show on the program.

Thats nuts? If I unplug the knock sensor I get a code of 43 and if I unplug the knock module I get a code 42/43. If I try to figure it out my head hurts! So I try not to try....:D
Mastiff if your VSS is on the fritz it will set a code but you should still run ok, VSS mostly causes tranny shift problems and decell problems?
