ok just a little question. sometimes when I accelarate while pulling onto the highway I wear a clunk/knocking type noise? any idea? I know my engine needs valve seals but i'm not sure if it needs anything else...I sure hope not

I also hear a hissing/grinding type noise when I accelarate a little bit
sometimes

it only does it while i`m driving....figured that this might help

When's the last time you had your timing checked? Or had your ignition cap off to inspect your weights and mechanical advance? I think you are trying to describe what's known as pinging, or pre-ignition. It almost always happens while accelerating, and can be attributed to either too much timing or dirty or sticky advance weights.

ok....i`m sorry but too technical...can u perhaps supply with pics and steps on what to do....i have a general idea but need to double check

yes...i have done the cap and rotor and stuff like that

i`m tryin to learn more

Well, underneath the cap, you'll find your mechanical advance setup. It's a spinning spring and weight dealy. Sometimes the arms get dirty which keeps them stuck in the advance position..........

This would be a LOT easier to explain the other way, brother. Most people really look forward to a call from the Can Man. :deal: :rotfl:

that sounds good but right now its afte midnight and i`m goin to bed in a few...i`ll pm u tomorrow mornin?

ya i know its a little old.....the noise seems like its coming from underneath me or maybe from the front....it does it when i a. floor it on the high way b. coast on highway and then hit gas kind of hard (sometimes) and c. sometimes when going up hill...

any idea.....u joint???

Yeah, stop flooring it! :wink1:

Boy, you young guys just love beating on your vehicles.. :haha: its ok, I did it too at your age...

But with age comes wisdom, if I even remotely think somethings wrong, i'm babying it... heck, i'm babying it 99% of the time anyway.. :haha: why CAUSE parts to fail unnescesarily....

Enough with the lecture.. :p: You need to narrow this down for us a little to help you... It could be anything.... Big difference between a motor "knock" and "ping"... Does it sound like a paint can rattling?

hmmm....maybe a really big paint can:D

kind of hard to tell...maybe...hmmm....its like a loud click noise i think

It sounds like Can had you on the right track. Sounds like pre-ignition pinging to me from your description of heavy throttle and going up hills..

It can be caused by numerous factors. advanced timing (stuck weights, etc), lean conditions, overheating, wrong heat range plugs, low octane...

Does your motor have a knock sensor? It is a round shaped item threaded into the block down on the passenger side, down by the oil pan, right behind the motor mount. With a wire running to it.

umm not sure...i can look around..maybe low octane is my problem....because it doesnt do it all the time
