last wheeling trip my big 60' strap was balled up, we hooked the ends to the trucks and pulled, then i noticed a "ball" in the middle. i stopped to look at it and there was a knot in it. i got too much in a hurry and i paid for it.

i really like the length of this strap, the knot is almost in the middle 35 feet from one end and 25 feet from the other. ive tried to get it out but its not looking so good. my last resort is to cut it in the knot and have loops sown on the ends, its what i did to begin with. they have held up under some very hard pulls, so im not conserned about sowing it.

any one have any luck getting a know out?

It took forever, but I used channel locks and squeezed the rope to make it smaller and stuck a flat head down the middle of the knot and worked it free.

Good Luck

ive gotten knots out before, with screwdrivers, channel locks, and alot of patience. this was with two straps knotted together. i think i'd just leave it there if its in the middle of a 60ft strap. i dont think it'll hurt anything.

ive heard the sharp bend weakens it, but i don't know.

i just put it in hot water, ill give it 15 minutes, then go at it with a screwdriver and pliers.

tj you were smashing on his blazer to get him out, i do not think your going to have much luck with it he was hung up bad!!!

,, but yeah a awl or two and some pliers are you best bet IF you going to have any luck.

think it would be a bad idea to cut it over lap the ends and have it sown togeather?

i tried for about an hour and gave up, ill probably cut it. i really like the length though.

he was stuck, too me forever to get him out with your strap, i still don't know how he got in so far anyway.

you can see the knot in this picture if you look close.

Leave the knot in but don't let anybody stand as close as the guy in that pic again. Especially with the knot in it. The weak spot in the strap is now the knot, unless there is a cut or fray somewhere else in it.

Ditto...

no cuts or stray, the guy is a good 12-14 feet from it, but ill keep them away. i guess ill leave it alone, and it if breaks, then ill get loops sown on the ends.

I have video of a nylon strap breaking a tearing up the sheet metal on a newer dodge -- and there were no shackles or anything on it. just loops.

thats why when i pull anybody out where is going to require alot of work(not just a little tug) i put a heavy blanket over the strap or chain first ALWAYS
