Hey guys sorry if I've missed it but didn't see anything in the searches. I'm looking for a winch, and I've got the option to pick up a Warn 16.5ti from a buddy for $1200. However I've heard a few good reviews of these Kodiak Grizzly winches (12k) from Quality Gear. Anybody have any experience with them? A brand new 12k winch from them including their accessories kit (mounting, tree saver, snatch blocks, 2xclevis, etc) is only $700. I'm a little worried about the 16.5 too, just because it's so damn big! Well, that an a pull of 540 amps...

Curious the sudden need for a winch? Here's some pics!

AND if you're curious why I don't have a grill at the moment...

Yep, it's been a fun few weeks!

You should fix your front clip body mounts

I've never had any experience with Kodiak but I can attest to milemarker and more generally the fact that a winch DOES NOT have to be warn to work.

hahaha actually you know what it is, the passenger side radiator support bolt sheered, and being that the hood and the quarter panel are attached to it they went with it. There's half a bolt hanging down from it. Easy fix, just looks bad. :D Nothing's broken (PHEW!)

Ya I'm with you, Warn's the be all and end all I suppose but hell, SO expensive. I'm just not sure I need 16500lbs of winch pull to get a blazer out of mud and snow... That being said, just want to make sure that it lasts more than one pull too.

My buddy and I both run 8000s, and I've barely ever needed my snatch block in 3-4 ft of snow. Airtight mud is a totally different story though, but tons of guys back home in AK use 8274s by choice on their moose buggies, which are probably 5-6k lbs. It doesn't get too much worse than bottomless muskeg. Hell, I've pulled mini trucks on 35"s out with my 2k ATV winch and a snatch block. They were buried pretty good in the mud.

The only guy I've seen that needed a 16.5 was a crewcab super duty on 42s, that was buried to his doors in muskeg, but there was nothing strong enough for him to winch off of anyway.

Actually the reason I was going to go 16.5 was for my buddy's crewcab super duty (only 38s though) that I wheel with pretty regularly. He's always breaking that damn thing...

Good points though, I'll try out this Grizzly winch and see how it works. Worst case, it's got warranty! :waytogo:

Well make him try to package and carry the huge damn winch then! Lol. I don't know where the hell I'd put a winch that big, course my main goal was approach angle with my setup.

God, with safety factor and a snatch block, I'd want the mounting to hold up to like 90,000 lbs for a winch that big.

My thoughts as well. Once I get this thing out of the woods we're going to start fabbing a bumper setup for the front, trying to keep the winch mount fairly high to keep my angles acceptable.
