Anybody from the Los Angeles area can you please recommend a reputable transfercase rebuilder?
1989 NP241C
I can drop it out but want someone who can rebuild and add a JB Conversions slip yoke eliminator.
Southbay 4x4 doesn't do them anymore.
Thank you

Why not do it your self. Their is only three tools that are really needed to do the job. One is a blind bearing puller, heavy duty snap ring pliers with flat jaws and bearing seal drivers.. I just did a complete rebuild and JB conversion on a 1990 241. This was my first tranfer case rebuild. Their are a ton of videos on utube.

I dont think they could have made an easier to disassemble/reassemble transfercase.

My first one as well when I installed the SYE, only problems I had were caused by a PO, and sealing the case halves.

Thanks franken & dyeager watched a couple videos doesn't look too difficult, I may just give it a go.
You still have to get a new driveshaft too right? Nothing stock will fit Im guessing

I'm not a mechanic, but I've done a couple of 241s, got one on my bench now. Go ahead and diy, hell, if I can do it anybody can. 2nd the call on quality snap ring pliers.

I went with a CV because the driveshaft angle was pretty extreme and the pinion and t-case angles aren't right.

Front shouldn't change, but the rear of course will, going from a stock slip to whatever option you chose with the SYE.

Honestly, and not to be a naysayer, but I had buyers remorse after doing the 241 SYE. I've never broken a rear shaft, and with the hassles I see keeping splined driveshafts in good shape (heck, plus cost of a driveshaft anymore), keeping the slip yoke for my purposes would have been a better option. Same as originally going with a 205. Too late now lol.

If you still want a recommendation PM me. I’ve had the same shop in Whittier do my 208/241 SYE work as well as my 4L60 and 700r4
