Have you guys seen this? Not sure of the story but Chevy dealership closed decades ago with new cars locked inside. Also saw that they had rows of brand new trucks just parked in a field.

This was in the news awhile ago and they were all auctioned off.

I figured they were auctioned off as the auction date was 2013. But, this is the first I have heard of this, I must have missed the news that night back in 2013.

More info for those like me that never saw it before.

The story as I remember it was that dealer took trades in, but never sold them. Same for overstock inventory, he never sent it back to GM. IIRC there was a '58 Apache pick up that had under 10 miles on it at that auction. Super cool story, but I also think a lot of people way overpaid for some stuff...

One of my techs went out there for the auction. Couldn't get a hotel room within 100 miles of the place. Insanity all around. Even the small stuff went for stupid money. Like over $100 for a Lambrect yard stick. I watched the auction live on discovery. I shook my head a lot in response to the stupid money getting tossed around.

A '58 truck with less than 10 miles on it sounds cool, but in reality every seal, gasket or anything with rubber including weatherstrip, hoses, etc, on the truck probably needs replaced, the fuel tank is probably rusted out. Dust tends to become part of the paint once it sits there for 20 years+, so al the trim has to come off and a repaint would be needed. You would probably have to completely disassemble the thing and go through it in full, basically you'd be buying a parts car the only benefit being you know all the parts are there.

The 58 Apache was stored indoors the whole time, as were quite a few others. I could see it needing a few seals, and a good going through...but no way the fuel tank is gonna be rusted out. anyways, IIRC it went for 6 figures...idiot money IMHO.

Well, I
but no way the fuel tank is gonna be rusted out

They rust out from moisture in a hot cold cycle. When they sit for too long, as temp changes moisture collects inside and rusts them to nothing. It's worse if there's gas left in it, but will still happen to any empty sealed tank as well.
I just bought an '89 Pontiac STE AWD that sat from 2001 to 2015. 45k mi. No rust. ubt ran like dog crap. When I pulled the tank from the outside it looked perfect, the inside was a rusted nasty mess, sending units had rusted off, the fuel pump was only held on by it's rubber hose, the whole inside was wrecked.
