Large Sockets?

Hey all,

Where you you guys get cheap, large sockets? I would like a cheap set for occasional use in the 1" -1.5" range. Basically sockets larger than your standard 1/2" drive impact set.

I would go 1/2" drive, or 3/4" drive with an adapter. Planned to get some harbor freight crap, but they didn't' have a large set like that.
 
Let me know the sizes you specifically want and i may have some here at the shop. I found a box of cheap sockets a long time ago that are brand new and i don't use them. Most if not all are 3/4" drive.

EDIT: I just dug them out and they are all 3/4" drive, 12 point and the sizes are...15/16", 1 1/16", 1 1/8", 1 1/4", 1 3/8", 1 7/16", 1 3/4", 1 7/8", and 2". There are some small sizes that are 1/2" drive if you're interested in those as well.
 
Harbor freight has good deals on the big stuff. I wouldn't cheap out on the ratchet or breaker bar, but I have had yet to destroy one of thire 3/4 drive sockets. You can get a ~20 piece set for around $50.
 
Hm, guess they didn't have it in stock when i was there. I really don't have an issue using a 1/2" breaker bar w/adapter, i have yet to do anything that requires more torque than that. Its probably a 16" bar, and its craftsman, so if i break it......:)

EDIT: OK, i lied. Harbor freight had the set with 3/4" drive extensions, breaker bar, sliding t handle, etc for like $60. It was just way more than i needed. This project is starting to nickle and dime me to death, so i didn't want to buy all that. Really, i probably need 1 1/8", and 1 3/16", and thats probably it. But would like an assortment, cause we all know i will end up with the wrong sizes.

Would defintiely work, but more than cheap sockets, i was looking for harbor freight ish prices :haha:

Ive already bought about $150 in tools (including new jack stands) for this project, and i'm running out of justification to myself to spend any more. I was hoping to pickup a cheapy set for $40 or less.
 
For single sockets try tractor supply (if you have one local). They are anywhere from $2-12 a piece there.

Just go to autozone and rent what you need then return it when your done.
 
I already got him covered. Sold him what he needed and then gave him a box full of other goodies to go with it. :thumb:
 
Got any other tools you looking to unload? I could use a set of metric wrenches and impact sockets.
 
Sold him everything i had that i was getting rid of. Those were the only cheap tools i had (from work) everything i have at home is here to stay.

Can't go wrong with the Harbor freight Impact socket set. The basic sizes 1/2 drive set is like $10. And impact sockets are supposed to "give" a little, so who cares if they are cheap $hit.

If you break them, upgrade, but looking at what you do, i bet they will live for a long time.

Wrenches on the other hand, head to Sears and buy craftsman, or watch craigslist.

You know... the harbor freight wrenches aren't that bad.... I got a full set 3/8" threw 1 1/4" for 30 bucks with a lifetime warranty. They are a little soft for my liking though... I've bent a couple of em.

For some reason I was thinking harbor freight didn't have metric 1/2" impact sockets... now that I think about it that doesn't seem right.:doah:

I'm always on the lookout for good tools on the cheap though... harbor freight is usually the next best option.
