What is the largest spare tire you have fit in the factory tire carrier in the bed of a k5. I am wanting to put a 315/75R16 back there but may go bigger some day, thanks.

32 x 10.5 x 15 fit good (tight) , 33s are too tight IMO, depending on manufactor, some tires are tru 33s some are not. You could get a 33 but may have to air it down some.

I mounted a 315/75/16 on the inside carrier with the rear seat in place. Definately a tight fit but it did fit.

265/75R16 (32x10.5R16)

I had to mount mine through one of the lug nut holes instead of the center. I'd bet you could get a taller tire in there like 4x4High said but it would be tight for sure.

Don't see how it could jeopardize anything other than the finish on your nice new wheel...

Might be a good point.*

*I'm probably talking out of my ass.:D

33x12.50.15 BFG M/T. the tire touched the back seat a little but was still easily able to latch. Had about 1/2 an inch between tire and tailgate. Was still able to put cover over it that was made to fit a 31, the cover looked a little retarded. Not the best pic.

Thanks for the info. I'm using a pickup tailgate so that should give me a couple extra inches for a tire.

I know this is almost a year old, but all the same...

I tried to fit the same size as you, but found that I had to move the tire so much forward from the center position on the holder for the tailgate to be able to close that it was then impossible to get the back rest to latch in the upright position. And if I locked the back rest in first, I could not move the tire enough forward for the tailgate to close. And this was without any cover over the tire whatsoever. Mine is a Cooper tire, but would the actual dimension actually differ that much? It doesn't even have more than 60-70% left of the tread. I was more or less in despair and figured I would have put a 31" tire back on the wheel to fit it in there, even though I drive on 33's. But seeing your post makes me think I should fiddle with what I have just a little more.

FWIW. I have mine going through one of the lug holes instead of the center hole. Helped me get the right location to make everything fit. Mine is also turned around so the tire sits out further from the wheel hump.

Surely not with a functioning back seat? Does he have a pickup tailgate, or what? Pics would be interesting.

ill get pics asap. I talked to him just now and he said it only tweaked the back seat very little. stock tail gate in an 86 K5
