Ok so I've beaten the headers postings thoroughly and I'm sure you are all tired of my questions so I'll post a few pics and some answers for the next poor ba$tard.
In March I needed new headers because the passenger side had a break inside the collector and couldn't be welded w/out removing them, so I fugured since they are a little rusty and no name brand could be found I'd just call Hedman and buy some new ones.
Hedman guy grills me on which vehicle I have and after looking over the CK5 site I knew of a couple areas to avoid. I tell him about the 350 / K5 / 8 inch lift / Manual floor shift trans aka 465. He tells me I need either the Hedman Part no. 66092 or 69230.
I call Summit since they are in Reno and I won’t have to pay shipping and go through the same dissertation, he tells me they only sell the 66092 and he guarantees me there the ones I’m looking for.
After having to use a sawzall to remove the no.2 port and hacking the rest of the exhaust I finally get the old headers out. Just then the problems begin.
1. The new headers hit the lower shackle on the passenger side.
2. I have to heat and bend the Z bracket on the clutch to make it clear the no. 5 port tube and hot very well.
3. The Starter Pos cable has no choice but to touch the new header.
4. Have no exhaust experience and have to go to shop who tells me they want $500 to create a custom 2 ¼ w/mufflers.
The first real trip out I rub a hole in the passenger header, blow a drivers exhaust gasket from around no.7.
So to shorten this a little I found some third party ceramic coated Hedman 69230 headers. They went on like a glove. (not the kind you give a courtroom defendant). The exhaust fits at frame level and cannot touch the spring hangers or anything else, the Z braket for the clutch fits either “modified” or normal. And the exhaust is straight pipe to the muffler on the drivers side and barely bent on the passenger.
To summarize: If your truck needs headers go with Thorley’s.
