last night my friend calls me and said SHE fried her tranny. so i get there and we get my tow rope out (had the strap for 6 months and never used it) and i tow her to the collage we go to 15 miles away.
P.S. my TPS went out 3 hour before. big mud puddles and TPS's don't go together

you strapped her 15 miles on the road? Hope it was late at night.......

Would hate to see the fine for getting caught doing that.

Here in California you only need a solid attaching point (with links of some kind on either end) if you are towing down the freeway for further than the next exit. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d13/vc29006.htm

Around town you can tow with a string if you wanted to.http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d13/vc29005.htm

No way, i always figured that was a huge no-no.

So a tow bar would be needed on the freeway for more than one exit? Is that what they mean by rigid?

Cool to know you can tow around town wiht a rope though, always figured i'd do it in a pinch, but never thought it was legal.

Guess you learn something new everyday!

Rigid means anything solid between the towing vehicle and the towed vehicle. This can simply be a piece of pipe attached to each vehicle. That can only be done to the nearest exit other than that you need either a tow bar, dolly, or trailer.
