Anyone know the WMS width on a late model 14FF 10.5" out of say an '04 Silverado? I think it's the best way to pick up disc brakes?

I do not know the dimension. The hubs are completely different as well as the backing plate mounting pattern. I have been slowly working on adding late model disc with parking brake to the older housings. I said slowly due to machine work and getting good patterns to have new flanges made. I'll get back to it soon.

If I find the wms I'll post it.

i think maybe he was saying swap in the whole axle.if it can be had for cheap enough,it would be a viable option to get a strong axle and also disk brakes from the factory.dont have any figures as rar as width, but standard seems to be 67 inches on all single rear wheel trucks.

Yes, I plan to swap the whole axle. I can pick it up for a few hundred bucks. It is complete with cables from an '05 silverado with 50K mi. I was hoping to move the perches and shock mounts and be on my way. I think it's wider than our trucks I just don't know how much.

It seems a far superior route to throwing eldorado calipers on my rear for more $$ and having a weaker e-brake system which is required to hold for inspection here.

I know mine is 67" WMS, I was actually hoping the later models were closer to the D60 front whatever that is ~69" or so.

And the answer...for future reference is 68" WMS.

Perfect. Always wondered if this would be a good swap. Guess it would be. Now more ppl just need to roll 3/4 and 1 ton duramaxes and 6.0L gassers so we can steal their parts

There is a yard up my way that has a good 15 in stock for $450 a piece.

I'm sure it will take some more time before the prices on them come down everywhere, then it will be a hot swap. Right now though, if you can get one cheap, go for it!

Yeah, my thinking exactly. Although...when you consider the price of an Eldo' caliper swap $450 isn't too bad especially when you could get a buck or two out of the 14B you already have.

Few things to make note of is almost all are 4.10 ratio...which matches my front so that works nicely for me. Other thing is about everyone I have seen has G80 option (the gov lok). Might just be a Northeast standard "regional" option..not really sure. I have broken a few of the gov loks in my day. For what I am doing with this rig it's fine. I know what the gov lok can and can't take. Lastly, there are a number of yokes that GM used. A gasser regular cab truck will be a 1350 joint but a xtra, crew, big block, or diesel is gonna be a 1410 or 1480. I picked up a 1410 series on mine. It matches what I had in there.

isn't the newer 14 bolt quite a bit different than the older one internal wise? i thought they did not have the 3rd pinion bearing any more.

You are thinking of the 14Bolt 11.5" ring gear. This was used in the newer 3500 trucks.... possibly others, and some Dodge's. The 11.5 does not have the removable pinion. I'm referring to the 10.5" ring gear model which is identical to the old 14B found under our trucks. Of course it is the '88 up style with the larger pinion bearings and finned case. Internally it is identical to the old 14B FF.

Here is one up on ebay to get the idea of what they look like.

The 11.5" has a cover pattern similar to the old 14B 9.5SF (other than it's bigger).

As far as I know, all of the duramax and 8.1 trucks got the 11.5 if they were a 3500 OR a 2500HD. Why would there be a 10.5 with a larger yoke for an 8.1 or duramax? Would it be from an 8.1 Burb?

You could well be correct. The Hollander interchange list 10.5 or 11.5 for all of them. I don't know why the yokes are different. The options are 1350, 1410, 1480. I suspect the 11.5 only comes in 1410 or 1480. My guess on the 1410 and 1480 would because of a higher continuous torque rating than the 1350. The unit I picked up is a 10.5 14FF with a 1410. It came from an '05 2500HD crew cab. I don't know which motor other than it was gas. The 14FF has a weight rating of >9000lbs and a continuous torque rating of 2200ft/lbs. This being said, I don't see why the 2500 with 8.1 or Duramax would call for an 11.5 14 bolt?

Every last Duramax truck I've seen has had the 11.5 (it's obvious because of the door emblem). Most of the non-duramax trucks have the 10.5, but there are some that have the 11.5. I take that as meaning they are equipped with the 8.1.

maybe manual vs. auto? I know dodge trucks would have different rearends depending on what tranny.
